My scores are fairly decent I believe however I do not have many ECs if any to put on my application. I have worked 35-40 hours a week alongside going to school full time pretty much my entire college career. I did volunteer in an ER for like 3 weeks but I had to quit because it was interfering with with limited study time I had already.

I should graduate with about a 3.6 overall GPA and possibly a 3.7 science. I just got by MCAT score back and it was a 29 (9verbal,9physics,11bios.) I live in Louisiana and plan on applying to both LSU schools as well as Tulane. I was wondering what other schools I might do good at applying too?

Also should I put that I volunteered for a few weeks on my application? I want them to know I tried, but I don't want it seem as if I gave up on it. Any ideas?

Do you have any reason to believe, from talking to a prehealth advisor, that med schools in your state are going to overlook the fact that your sole experience with medicine is 3 weeks of clinical volunteering?

Adcomms might have some leniency for someone who worked full-time through college, but they aren't likely to be THAT forgiving.

Applying is stressful and expensive. I suggest you wait until you can beef up your experiences, even if it takes more than a year (average age at application is 24 years), so you'll have a good chance of success. Don't forget physician shadowing and nonmedical community service.

After you graduate, you should have no problem spending 4 hours a week with each type of volunteering. Maybe you could even get a job in a research lab or a medical facility and earn money doing things that build a med school application.

BUMP. Anyone else have any opinions? Should I at least maybe apply to local schools or are my chances pretty much 0 without any ECs.
