alright here it goes

3.72 Science GPA
3.65 Overall GPA

Volunteer and Work

1. Been working at a non profit organization for 7 years, 30-42 hours a week during school and yes summer too

2. During summer i go to a local camp to volunteer, pretty cool- several of us dig a massive hole and start a pit fire and continue with an underground cookout etc, to feed mentally challenged children as well as adults/famalies ( my work donates all profit towards this camp, this is a reason why i stay working there )

3. I also have done a full week rotation with a Family Doctor; 8 hour days.

4. Volunteer during the MS walk.

5. Volunteer at school for middle/high school students during a midwest science challenge. I worked in the Physics department.

I'am a Biology major with almost a minor in Chemistry. I also go to school at a private University. This is my junior year and plan on taking the MCAT during the summer; in hopes of sending an application. My senior year i will do small volunteer work and get a job in a hospital to finish off the school year.
From the way my grades are going they should go up slightly from where my science/overall is sitting, not much but slightly...

All of my pre-reqs for med school are finished--

B Bio 1
A Bio 2
B Chem 1
A Chem 2
A Physics 1
A Physics 2
B+ Ochem 1
A Ochem 2

other:
A genetics
X Advanced genetics coming soon
A A&P 1
X A&P 2 coming soon
A Microbio
B Calc 1
geting a C in astronomy freshman year ouch

I want to maybe do some research, well see this summer depending on how this all goes, i understand i lack on this and that but hey lets hear it--

SO PLEASE GIVE ME YOUR INPUT ON HOW YOU THINK I LOOK SO FAR...

Your GPA is very good. Keep up the good work.

I have concerns about your extracurriculars, especially if you are planning to apply this coming summer. You have one week of shadowing, which is enough for shadowing, and interact with the mentally-challenged clients at a camp during an annual event (if I understand correctly), but really no clinical experience where you are actively involved with sick people (unless your work involves something you haven't specified). How will adcomms be convinced you are dedicated to becoming a doctor? Getting a job at a hospital is a great idea, but you would not have much longevity to list on your application by the time you need to submit. If you could start this ASAP, it would help, but keep in mind that the average applicant has 1.5 years of such involvement.

You've demonstrated your community spirit through intermittent experiences, but it would be nice to see some type of more regular (weekly) involvement, if you aren't doing this.

You could combine both these expectations with a weekly volunteer gig in a clinical environment for 3-4 hours per week.

Hopefully, you have something to list under leadership (would the work at the non-profit qualify for this in some way?). A teaching/mentoring experience is nice to have (science fair? depending on what you do). Research is not required, but is desirable. But if you don't start until summer, you won't have much to say on your application.

Nice job! I wouldn't stress too much over the clinical hours- they are obviously good but I have a very similar application and adcoms don't seem to turned off by my lack of hours as long as you articulate how dedicated you are and how convinced you are that this is right for you. Study hard for the MCAT- I have the same GPA almost and I got a 27 on the MCAT (luckily I have two interviews already and one is from a top 25 school surprisingly). Apply EARLY and apply to a lot of schools- I know it is expensive, but it's worth it.
