Hi everyone, I went to a California CC for two years then transferred to UCSD. Would this affect my chances at a top tier MD school? (Received 1 W and 1 C from the community college)

LizzyM Score of 74.60

Cumulative GPA: 3.76
Science GPA: 3.73
MCAT Score: 520

Volunteering (Clinical):
~150 hours in the ER
~250 hours during clinical internship (hands on experience)
~85 hours Child Life volunteer

Volunteering (Nonclinical):
- Tutoring underprivileged children, 120 hours

Physician Shadowing: 25+ hrs

Research:
- Over 1 year (~800 hours). No publications.
- Did a summer research program with a poster presentation (~300 hours)

Add more just bc you are from Cali. Look into privates and some OOS-friendly publics (ex Ohio St, Cincy, UVA) with MCAT medians in the ~515 neighborhood or higher.

How badly do the CC credits, the W, and the C hurt my chances? Am I aiming too high?

Thank you for your input! Any suggestions on "reach schools" that I could potentially have a chance at?

If you took prereqs at CC, check individual schools' policies and about CC credit.
Do you have an upward trend?
You should be fine by academic metrics even if your GPA would put you on the low end at many schools in the Top 15-ish.

I took all prereqs at my CC except for Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry which were taken at my university. Earlier I looked through the MSAR online and noticed that a decent majority of schools seem to accept CC credits so I'm hoping I'll be fine. As for the academic trend, I have always remained at a consistent 3.7-3.8 average every semester (excluding the one summer semester where I received a C and a W).

I understand that getting into any medical school would be a major accomplishment but if I were to take a gap year to enhance my list of EC's, could I potentially be competitive at a top 10 MD school? Or would this be a waste of time?
