how is 200 hours of volunteer work considered "poor ECs"? I would just consider that as 'not awesome'

Is it really? Considering I have no research and have held no leadership positions, I thought my ECs were unimpressive. Comparing it to all the others who posted here (including the ones with sub-30 MCATs), my ECs do not look all that good imo.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

they're not that bad. SDN has high standards; it's mostly the kids who are going to get in that post here. everybody has research blah blah blah. try rush, and all the state schools, then ccom (DO) for safety if you really feel the need. in general, DO schools like volunteer work, MD likes research.
