Long time lurker, first post:

I'll be applying as a MN resident, 3.8+, balanced 33. Submitted primary app Aug 7th (PS took me forever, but it came out great)

EC's:
- research: 500+ hours research in 3 labs, 2 posters
- clinical experience: shadowing (100+ hrs, 10 specialties, also shadowed midlevels)/ED vol/CNA/other hosp vol, etc
- lots of education related service with underserved/disabled/peers/children/community (~ 300hrs)
- leadership, awards, hobbies

Good diverse LORs

Also, I'm hoping to interview well as I know a few medical students (family) who conduct interviews with whom I will be able to practice.

Miscell: Family/personal ties to the Jesuits (for schools like SLU/Creighton/Loyola/Georgetown)

School list->

Already applied to:
Minnesota - Twin Cities
Medical College of Wisconsin
UW-Madison (my UG)
Mayo (big reach)
Rush
Loyola
SLU
Creighton
Georgetown
George Washington University
Rosy Franklin

Will be adding:
Miami-Miller
Iowa
Cincinnati
Wake Forest
Brown
Albert Einstein
Virginia Commonwealth University
Drexel
Dartmouth
Rochester
Virginia Tech
Penn State
Pittsburgh (big reach)
Ohio State (big reach)
(25 total schools planned)

Recently decided not to add:
Hofstra
Temple
NYMC
Jefferson
Albany

My main concern is how late my primary app was submitted. I've seen in the verification thread that verification is taking about 20 days, so I hope to be verified by end of August. I am grinding thru the secondaries for the schools I've applied to so far, and hope to be able to immediately turn my secondaries around once I'm invited to submit after primary app verification and receipt by medical schools. Finally, I was hoping to apply to no more than 30 schools cuz that's about when the money runs out (assuming I submit secondaries to all of them).

Questions for you all:
1) Since my app is so late, should I add even more schools than the 25 total I plan on applying to? Would you suggest adding the 5 I left off, or are there others that would be better?
2) Should I apply to more reach schools? I have Mayo, Pitt, and Ohio State so far as big reaches.
3) Are there any schools that are known for not having rolling admissions that I have missed on my list?
4) In general, are there any schools on this list that I should NOT complete a secondary at (ie would it be a waste of money because I have no chance)? I am a "traditional" applicant - are there any on my list that aren't as friendly to "traditionals"?
5). In general, are the any schools NOT on my list that I should apply to?

Thank you in advance for your help!!!

Brown heavily favors their own undergrads. I'd consider taking that one off.

List looks good. Suggest deleting Brown as they heavily favor their own UGs. Ditto for OH State, as your MCAT is below their mean, and state schools favor the home team. U Toledo might be doable. I suggest adding Tulane, and U Miami.

Thanks to you both! I was hesitant about Tulane as I read somewhere here on SDN that they seem to favor non-traditionals, but I think I'll go ahead and add it. I might keep Ohio State as I would love to go there, even tho im OOS (seems like they do accept some OOS) and will be removing Brown - thanks for the heads up about their UG's!!! Also, I had considered Toledo, but at 63k OOS tuition I think I'll go a different direction. Also I have Miami-Miller and would be extremely lucky to get an II there.

Finally, I've been considering adding Hofstra more and more (on my list of last 5 out), but am a bit concerned about going to a new school and haven't seen a match list...

Thanks for your help!!!

bump/ planning on adding the schools tonight, any last ideas/comments? Thanks!
