I got a J on my writing... (10 VR...not like I suck at talking/writing)
My ECs are average at best (little shadowing/volunteering at random places/leadership role in my fraternity...lambdas unite! ha)

I live in IL/go to school in texas

where should i apply/what should i expect?

is that your only mcat? if you had a previous mcat with a lower score but a higher writing, you could convince adcoms that it was just fluke

isn't J like the lowest possible grade or something? meh that really sucks considering everything else in your app is strong.

i'd just retake the mcat tbh, but if you wanna apply now, just apply broadly and be ready to explain the score on interviews.

probably each place will treat your case differently so its hard to know just how big of a deal it will be

When did you plan to apply? It would likely be beneficial for you to beef up your "average at best" Experiences before applying, perhaps with some resarch, teaching, nonmedical community service, and more leadership, as well as better than customary shadowing hours and clinical experience.

Your numbers are good for many schools in Illinois; be sure your PS and essays are consistently well written. Texas schools other than Baylor only take 10% OOS students, BTW.
