  1. Pre-Medical
Hi I am a senior planning to take a gap year to do research, hoping to get accepted into a post graduate research position somewhere.

GPA: 3.92/4.00. Science major with minors in mathematics and biophysics. 510 MCAT, ORM.

Other than that these are my activities.

1) President of school's fencing club (multiple years), host multiple tournaments/events every year, planning a charity tournament this year to raise money for homeless soup kitchen.
2) President of a Christian Club that does Bible studies weekly.
3) Medical assistant/phlebotomist for an internal medicine physician ~700 hours by time of applying.
4) Research in both basic science research and in AI. One presentation for each lab so far, possible paper in both.
5) Shadowed a family medicine physician (25 hours), and a geriatric psychiatrist (25 hours), and did some virtual shadowing (22 hours).
6) Pell grant recipient, two other need based grant received, an award for being the top organic chemistry student one year, another scholarship received based on being a pre-medical student with a financial need.
7) Various volunteering at church, mostly with running kids events.
8) Volunteering at homeless soup kitchen, estimated ~100 hours by the time of applying.
9) TA for General Chemistry II.
10) Tutored a foreign middle school student in English over zoom.

My main thing right now is do I retake the MCAT, since the section I missed the most points by far is P/S, which I think I can improve a lot in. If not what should my school list be, since I am also a FAP recipient and can consider more schools than I would have before. I still have time before next cycle so this is something I am seriously considering. Any other advice about anything else would be great too.

Welcome to the forums.

What is your state residency? I don't see it listed. Where did you apply, if you submitted an application already? What is your school list and how did you draft it? Were you ever part of a pipeline/enrichment program in K-12 or as a college student?

When did you take your physics sequence? With a 3.9 GPA, I assume all A's, right?

Thank you for the reply.

My state residency is Florida. The school list I drafted is currently being edited, since I thought my MCAT would be higher based on FLs, and so if I were to apply with this MCAT score I would probably drop some T20 schools.

I took six physics courses/labs (two labs, four courses) in college and got A/A+ in all the courses and labs. The general physics courses was also calculus based which I don't know if admissions committees care about or not.

I don't know what the pipeline/enrichment program is. I took AP courses and did a year of IB in high school (changed because I moved). I am not in the honors college at my university or any sort of BS/MD program if that is what you are asking.

I plan on applying next cycle, so right now I am just working on applying to some research positions for my gap year and doing the research I am currently doing at my university. I am also deliberating whether or not to retake the MCAT because the section I missed the most points on was P/S and I believe I can improve a lot, and my highest section was CARS.

Any advice is welcome. I am a tough guy, so you can be critical with me if it's warranted. Thanks!

Increase your homeless soup kitchen hours to 150 since many schools screen at 150 hours. I suggest these schools with your stats:
U Florida
Florida State
Central Florida

Wake Forest
Virginia Commonwealth
Eastern Virginia

But do you think I should retake my MCAT? My score spread was 128/129/128/125, and I really think I can improve in all the sections, especially P/S.

Many schools average scores so you would need to increase your score by 3 or 4 points to make a difference
