I am re-taking my DAT in about 3 weeks. The last week I plan on taking 4 full-length tests with a rest day right before my exam. I have been taking section practice tests on DAT Bootcamp and am not improving. I have been getting around the same scores that I got on my first real DAT. Does anyone have any tips? Especially for QR?

How did you study the first time, and how have you been studying the second time differently?

Last summer I had 3.5 months to study. I studied probably 3 hours a day because I had so much time. I was going into the test with the mindset that it's just a practice test, because at the time I had no idea I actually wanted to do dental school. So my heart really wasn't in it. I used Princeton Review Crack the DAT, DAT Bootcamp, and Cliff AP Bio.

This summer, I've been studying for six weeks. The first 3 weeks was intensive 6-8 hours a day reviewing the academic subjects in the Kaplan 2017 book. I took notes and made study guides. I reviewed my study guides before I started taking the subject-specific tests in Bootcamp. I read the answers and explanations for each test and watched all of them chemistry review videos, but that doesn't seem to be helping. I have watched Youtube videos on the Bio subjects I do not understand very well. My worst subject is QR by FAR, and then Gen Chem is a close second.
Should I just focus on one subject to make sure I get a super good score in that one? Should I just focus on memorizing things? How many hours should I be studying each day? I am just so lost now.

Maybe you should use destroyer it definitely helps exposing you to a lot of questions and it is very useful because I am forced to find the answer to the question myself rather then reading the explanations first! Its honestly very solid it builds good base that and watching mike videos an insane number of times on high and slow speeds has been helping me on the chem sections tremendously. Hope this helps!

What kinds of scores are you currently getting (and what did you get the first time you took the DAT)?

QR is mainly about practice. Are you having issues with speed, or do you not know how to solve the problems directly?

I would definitely not just focus on one subject and neglect the others. You want to aim to do well in every section, consistent scores are ideal. Memorizing is important if the reason you're getting problems wrong is inability to recall details/knowledge, whereas not knowing how to set up and solve a problem (like in chem or QR) is more about lack of practice.

Hours per day...really variable. But if you're taking the test in 3 weeks and not doing well, I'd say as many as you can tolerate while still being productive.
