I'm a reapplicant.
MCAT Last year (8P, 9V, 10B) 27Q

New MCAT (11P, 9V, 10B) 30

GPA 3.8c, 3.7s

I've been a medical scribe since December with more than 600 hours in the hospital.
1 year cardiovascular pre-operating room volunteer
5 months patient services volunteer
Added 40 hours shadowing a family practice doc.
Consistent volunteering for the past year.
Short term volunteering over the past four year (only about 150-200 hours)
Research in biochem lab for more than 1000 hours with poster presentations
Tons of extracurriculars - I co-founded a club, became chess club VP, wrote for the newspaper
Worked as a gen chem and orgo tutor at my university
5 LOR including PI and physician

I'll be applying MD and DO this year. I've narrowed down my MD list but am having difficulty with DO schools. I've been trying to find residency match statistics to use as a "ranking" guide but have only been successful for a few DO schools.

Michigan State

MD:

We have the same stats. Feel free to check out my MDApps to get an idea of where I am applying.

The below avg and imbalanced MCAT will hurt at the public schools you have in mind, except your own. You're fine for all the DO programs on your list, well, any DO school really, including mine.

Your reach schools are unrealistic, and they'll appreciate your donation in the form of your application fees. My suggested list is below.

I actually have the exact same MCAT score (11/9/10) and I didn't realize that it's considered to be imbalanced and THAT below average?

A 31 MCAT is between the 10th and 20th% for several of the schools listed (Gtown,SLU, BU...). The fact that it is a second try also will be considered.

This doesn't mean that OP should not apply, it just lowers the yield on secondaries.

I don't think this is actually considered imbalanced. My scores are +/-1 away from a 10 for each. I've reworked my list a little and here is what I've come up with. Are schools like Utah and Colorado worth it for OOS?

MD:
Albany
Creighton
Drexel
Einstein (reach)
EVMS

Loyola
MC Wisconsin
NYMC
Oakland U
Penn State
Quinnipiac
Rosalind Franklin
Rush
St. Louis U

Midwestern Chicago
Midwestern Arizona
Kansas City

Your MCAT score is not imbalanced.

Georgetown's average MCAT is only 31.9 (so a 31 can't be less than the 20th%).

Utah is very unfriendly to OOS unless you have significant ties to the state.

Colorado is more OOS friendly and prefers applicants with tons of clinical exp. and community service.

Other than that your list is fine. You have a great shot at DO, so I'd save some time/money and only apply to your top 4 choices. PCOM, DMU, KCUMB, and CCOM are widely considered to be the best DO schools out there.
