My stats are in the title (35 MCAT - 12 10 13, 3.97 GPA) but I have a few weaknesses that I am unsure about. Do you think these will damage my application? If so, how much?

*Took light schedules, never more than 14 credits (I took 12 credits once during my MCAT semester). I should say that I doubled up on math/science (two at once) half of the semesters, and I plan on taking 15 to 16 credits each semester my senior year (while doubling up)
*Got a 26 on my first MCAT
*Took Organic Chemistry and Physics entirely in the summer (not the same summer)
*One of my LOR writers does not know me all that well, but the others are very strong
*Very little work experience, infact, I just started the first job of my college career today

The rest of my app (ECs, etc) are well rounded and nothing out of the ordinary.

Thanks!!

Wow, I almost thought you were talking about me since we had the same stats. You'll be fine. Just don't apply to like all top 20 schools and you should pull through.

you're doomed. feel fortunate if you get into a DO school.

Ha ha JK! i dont see anything wrong with you app, if you had a 3.37 instead, maybe some schools would focus on this stuff but i wouldn't worry at all.

😀Thx everyone. You have no idea how much I worry about this stuff and it helps to hear encouraging things.

I don't think you'll have any trouble getting into your first choice, University of Iowa. Don't worry about your perceived weaknesses. They are non-issues.

does it look bad if you don't take a heavy load or take easy classes?

Haha, not really. In fact, I would be surprised if they even notice that stuff. I took 12 credits/semester for 3 semesters, and it was never even mentioned at interviews. (Granted, if you counted all the clinical volunteering I was doing those semesters, it's be like 16 credits/semester, do it wasn't me just sitting around a lot)

The lack of work experience (as in to make money) is also a non issue. Lack of clinical exposure is an issue, but lack of work is really neither here nor there I think. The only work I ever did while in college was as a student tutor. My work history was never brought up either, heh.

2nd. I don't understand why taking a class in the summer would ever be looked down upon. Why does it matter what the temperature is outside when you took your class? The material is the same and the same syllabus is covered. If an adcom ever scoffed at me for having done that, I would tell them to go pound sand. Medical admissions are ridiculous. It seems sometimes that if you haven't done everything exactly the way everybody else has done it, then you lower your chances. How in the world does that correlate to how successful you will be in school and your career?

Course load is irrelevant (SDN urban legend).

Taking pre-reqs in the summer is irrelevant (another SDN urban legend), unless perhaps you took them at a CC instead of at your 4 year. Even if that was the case, your high GPA virtually eliminates any questions about when or where you took a class.

The only real blemish on your record is the first MCAT. Some schools will be bothered by that, some will not even give it a second thought. Based on your list of schools, I think you should not be worried about this.

You have no worries, mate.
