35R sGPA 3.9: List too top-heavy?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
looks good, consider yourself validated. maybe add a few more top 20s

Your list is kind of top-heavy, but then, so are your stats!

I would imagine that as long as you're a nice person who interviews well, you'll probably do well.

Personally I'd swap Rosalind Franklin for Loyola, but I'm a bit biased towards Loyola 🙂.

You'll do just fine. Make sure that when you interview you gotta show them you have a life outside of academia.

Just one question, why MCW over UW-Madison (I'm a two-time Badger alum so I'm biased, but I do think UW is a better school than MCW)? How about some PacNW schools like OHSU and UW-Seattle?

I'd advise against Rosalind Franklin, even as a safety school. Try Rush or Loyola instead. Also, if you're applying to Chicago, might as well try Northwestern as well. Location-wise, it's better than UofC since it's right off of the Magnificent Mile compared to in the middle of south side.

OHSU is in the middle of nowhere Oregon, and they don't take many out-of-staters. They're also weird in that they're one of four schools that REQUIRES biochemistry with a lab. They also don't use AMCAS. I'm not sure what their deal is.

Washington is just heavily against out-of-state people. It's the only school in Washington, so it makes sense. The Pacific Northwest is pretty much a non-option for most people not from those states.

This thread makes me sad because I'm applying to most of those schools with stats that are about the same but with slightly less impressive extracurriculars. Also, the OP is a Battlestar fan, which means that he's probably good people. Why do we have to fight 🙁

Isn't OHSU in Portland? And are you sure they don't use AMCAS? I was under the impression only Texas schools didn't.

UW on the other hand, you're absolutely right about. Almost all of the out-of-staters they accept into the MD program are from WICHE states. Or is it that WAMI? Probably the latter... I just get all those acronyms mixed up...

Add SGU and all of the DO schools as safeties... just kidding... I'd add some stuff in warmer weather.

Ah, OHSU does use AMCAS, but they don't use the letter service. Makes a little more sense.

And Portland is a pretty abysmal city. I've had to head out there to see family a few times, and there is so little of note to do in the city that you're better off just continuing to drive north until you hit Seattle 😛
