Looking for anybody's opinions on mid-bottom tier programs with high percentages of people matching fellowships. Do these programs exist? Comments welcomed.

Excellent question...would appreciate if anyone could suggest programs that are not that well known/competitive. Thanks!!!

I don't exactly know what tier Drexel's IM program would fit it but all the residents receive excellent clinical training and there is a pretty damn good fellowship placement. The patients in philly are the sickest you'll see anywhere so you'll be able to handle just about anything. The program is resident run and a good number of the attendings are excellent clinicians and do a good deal of training. The chairs and vice chairs of the department are strong resident advocates and are phenomenal clinicians. Drs Miller and Boselli have an incredible teaching service and do a spectacular job at morning report. You probably won't find two better clinicians anywhere else IMO. The fellowship placement is quite good. I was talking to the residents who matched into various fellowships and basically everyone would worked hard (they did at least some research and knew that they wanted a fellowship from the start) matched. To name a few matches at notable programs, the program has sent 2 people to Cedars Sinai for cardiology the last 2 years, one other to UCSF for pulm/critical care. And keep in mind that the program is FMG heavy but the FMGs are for the most post awesome residents and most are just as good as the top US grads in terms of training. Most of the fellowship matches are FMGs so if you're a US grad, want to have a pretty damn good chance at matching into a fellowship, you should consider Drexel's IM program.

Why is the IM section so quiet and crappy? Not much help at all..........

Look at the university affiliated community hospitals. They may have listed the fellowships their residents have obtained. Most of the people at my program who wanted a fellowship have gotten fellowships.

So the drexel program has many FMGs? Does this include carribean grads?

Thanks for the tips, all. Any other suggestions on low-mid tier schools with good placement for fellowship?

I've heard something about Lahey having some strong fellowships (and seems like a lower tier program).

yes, there are FMGs at Drexel. But people with 235+ scores.
