A lot of the young nurses work night shift, because they are low on the totem pole - so they rotate shifts day/night. So, this may explain why you see cute ones. There are always a contingent of older ones on nights too. These are usually the types who can't stand the craziness of the daytime. Honestly, it's so good having a nurse on in the night shift who has been there for 25 years, because they usually have been through every situation known and are good resources.

Pediatrics... The hot ones are always in pediatrics for some reason. Stay away from surgery (and the ER as well although to a lesser extent). In general, everyone on the surgery floor is stressed and stress causes wrinkled faces and personalities.

Wow we are gonna get flammed for this thread. My comments are about gals, I know nothing about male nurse trends.

I have to agree with the above posters that it seems like the younger nurses are working nights. But because they are younger it also means they are inexperienced. And that causes some issues at times.
For example last night when I was on call I got paged like 5 times on 2 different patients because they were bradycardic (in the 40-ties).
So I ask the nurse: are they symptomatic?? What's the blood pressure? How do they look to you??
"oh, they're sound asleep".
Go figure 🙄

Hmm, you and the staff wouldn't be the first people to mistake "altered mental status" with "sound asleep".

No, hot ones also work days, but young ones work nights, and many of them are hot (before they get fatass disease, it is rapidly fatal).
Also, many night people are often single, because they work when they get paid more, not when they have to see their families.

OR nurses can often be people who are meticulously detailed and organized (ie odd personalities), or simply those nurses who become overweight form poor lifestyle choices, and that same attitude causes them to be ineffective in the hustle and bustle of the ward, preferring to stand in a spot for hours at the OR table.

On peds for me the nurses were mostly old, and very sure of themselves. I like the combo old/young on wards, because you need the old ones for ideas and to help you through problems, and the young energetic ones who don't mind running to get you this or that thing that you forgot what cupboard or rooms its in. The old ones will generally look at you funny if you ask for too much 'fetching', or sternly tell you the location of it, ie 'get it yourself dummy'.
