3rd Time Reapplying-Should I work?

Hey guys!

Okay so this is my 3rd time applying for Dental School for Fall 2014. Here are my stats:

overall sGPA: 3.44
oGPA: 3.47
BCP: 3.42
Served in two leadership positions for two diff honor org.
Lots of volunteering and ECs
Worked as student curator for Anthropology Dept for 1.5 yrs
Researched for NSC for 1 semester
Shadowed 1 Ortho and 2 Dentists

DAT: AA 19 and PAT: 16

I applied for 2013 and got 2 (LLU and UNE) interviews with a oGPA 3.35 sGPA: 3.21 and BCP: 3.15
From last year till now I've taken A&P 1&2 w/lab, Nutrition, Biol disease, Neurobio, Cell Micro, Pharmacology, Pathophysiology, and one other upper level bio.

Ill be retaking my DAT this June and taking 1 class this Fall.

My question is that should I just work as a RDA (dental assistant) this Fall and get experience? Will it look good or should I just take classes?

I know they wont be able to see my GPA for my Fall classes, so I was thinking if working would give me that extra point.

Looks like you really improved your gpa. I think you will be fine. Just retake the dat and as long as you do better than before, I'd say your chances are good. Especially since you already had 2 interviews last cycle. Don't think you have to do the RDA route.... Good luck!

🙂 Thanks for the feedback...I wanted to get some real hands on experience by doing RDA and extra cash wouldn't be so bad either lol.

Ill definitely say just work on your DAT and you should be set, also when applying, apply broadly .. Good luck 🙂

Sorry about being a jerk but I have a question that could probably be answered through searching google.

I'm also reapplying, do I have to resubmit my transcripts? Do I have to re-input everything into AADSAS?

Study for your retake as though your life depends on it and apply first batch. I think you'll be set with a better set of scores this time around. Don't worry. I know someone who applied 4 cycles and got in on her 4th try. She was consistently top 5 in her class. Being a little older and really valuing your chance to go to dental school makes a huge difference.

No worries! You only have to submit transcripts which have new classes on them from the past year. Other than that, if your info and classes are the same, you dont need to send another copy of your transcripts. Good luck to you 👍

I'm going to do just that! Would it be okay to apply like end of June you think since thats when I'm taking the DAT? Or should I just submit the app early and send in the DAT scores later? And man does that story of your friend sound inspiring. Thanks for your help 😀


@DDS2017 @cludestyle @peiopocket THANKS you guys...yall are the best!!!! I know I've made myself work hard to just pull those straight A's this past year. Yeah I'll just worry about the DATs then....I'm hoping this 3rd time will be my lucky one!
