I'm looking for advice on the best order to schedule my 3rd year rotations. Which rotations are best to do first? Last? Does it make any difference at all? My school links has a few rules about how to schedule our rotations, but for the most part, we are able to submit our preferred order. Right now, I think I might be interested in Psych, but that could change. Thanks!

There are many different strategies for mapping out 3rd year. My personal opinion is that it really doesn't matter in the end with the small caveat that its nice to have an easier rotation at the end of the year. So my advice is listen to what everyone has to say and decide for yourself whats best for you.

A few rules of thumb I ran across are:

Don't take something you are considering for a career 1st or last. You will make mistakes on your first rotation that may make it difficult to make connections. You likely will have to select an advisor and schedule your 4th year before you start your last rotation.

I took OB/GYN first and was satisfied because there is a finite amount of information and it was fun.

I would suggest taking IM, Peds, and OB/GYN before family medicine because the FM shelf exam is a combination of the other three. It will save you significant study time before the FM shelf (which I took today 🙂).
