If I want to go to dental school with only 3 yr undergrad, can I apply in the begginnig of my 3rd year and finish the prerequisites (physics) that year too?
is it much harder to make it to dental school with only 3 yr of undergrad?
thank you

Yes, you can finish your prereqs while you're applying, and in response to your second question, I would think yes also. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I recall reading on some of the school websites that they suggest you take your courses at a 4-yr university/college. Check out the websites of the schools you're interested in, they may or may not specify this.

yeah from what ive read on some schools websites it is exremely difficult to get accepted without a degree, i remember one school said with only three years of undergrad they want over 24s on all sections of DAT and a gpa close to 4.0

Did you mean a 3-yr college? Or just 3 out of 4 yrs of college?

Even if you graduate in 3 years, it's still difficult. You really would need stellar stats to get in w/o a degree. Also, it depends on schools too.

I'm confused by what you mean? I'm 20 (does my age even matter?) and I'm graduating this August from University of Miami in 3 years with a BHS with a 3.5 gpa.... does that mean I'm going to have a harder time? I still have my degree with about 130 credits... The only prereqs I have left are biochem/microbio which I'm taking in NY during the fall since I'm moving back home...

Should I be even more concerned now???🙁

tnx

As long as you finish your degree, it shouldn't make a difference if you finished it in 3 years or 4 years.

You can definitely finish your pre-reqs after you submit your application. Just make sure they are all complete before you start dental school (obviously!).

Good luck! You'll do fine.

I didn't phrase that well.
But it doesn't really matter, since you're graduating.
The thing is, some schools want you to have more than x amount of credits.
I'd check with the schools you wanna apply to.
Otherwise, keep on truckin!!😀 😀

the dental schools don't care if you graduate in 3/4 years, they just want you to have a degree before you matriculate, right??

Dental schools seem to be most interested initially in GPA and DAT scores. I'm not entirely sure why you would rush through college - if it affects your GPA then you are hosed. However, most dental schools do not require a degree, only 90 credit hours to include the prereqs. However, it is harder to get admitted w/o the degree so if you have years and years of dental experience or similar experience this would boost your application. Either way, you can still apply at the three year mark and then reapply if you don't get in, if you have the resources.
