Hey all,

I was hoping you could help me evaluate my chances of acceptance to certain medical schools! It's likely that my MCAT score will be the limiting factor. However, I feel my EC's are particularly compelling and may mitigate that concern. Here's my profile:

Undergraduate Stats
University of Alabama
Management and Spanish major (conversational in Spanish)

GPA: 4.0 (cumulative and science)
MCAT: 31M (VR 11, 11 PS, 9 BS)

Clinical volunteering: direct homecare volunteer with hospice patients for 2 years

Nonclinical volunteering:

a. Head coordinator for Dressing Up Birmingham, a disaster relief philanthropy event following tornadoes last year that distributed brand new garments of designer women's clothing to affected women (approximately 1,000 garments to 200 women)

-Responsible for management/distribution of ~$250,000 in retail value of clothes
-Coordinated with mayor's office of city of Birmingham, AL for mass media campaign
-Coordinated with vendors for equipment and supplies
-Recruited ~100 volunteers for the event
-Roughly 200 hours of planning/execution over course of one month

b. Coordinator for Dressing Up Tuscaloosa, similar event to above; event distributed 16,000 garments to ~2,000 affected women (retail value ~= $800,000)

c. Habitat for Humanity for a summer (~100 cumulative hours)

Research: member of psychology research lab for 2 years studying primarily somatization; contributing member of NSF grant-awarded project studying PTSD

Employment: Shift manager at Dairy Queen, one summer (~25 hours/week)

Shadowing:
50 hours nephrology (under 4 different physicians, shadowed acute and wards)
50 hours geriatric/family medicine (clinic)

Awards: Alumni Outstanding Senior Award, Outstanding Management Award, Zeta Beta Tau President's Award (my fraternity)

Leadership (some overlap with other headings): Executive Vice President, Zeta Beta Tau; Shift manager at Dairy Queen; Head Coordinator of Dressing Up Birmingham

Schools List

1. University of Alabama - Birmingham
2. University of South Alabama
3. Northwestern
4. University of Chicago
5. Johns Hopkins
6. Emory
7. UCLA
8. Southern Cal

Questions

1. What are your thoughts regarding my overall resume/competitiveness for these schools?
2. Although I only spent one summer in college working as shift manager at Dairy Queen, I spent a total of 3.5 years as manager (including high school). Is there any way I can communicate this responsibility in the application?

Thanks for your help!
