I started interviewing in early October and I've had a total of 4 interviews with no acceptances. Does anyone know what my chances are of getting rejected everywhere?

I really don't want to take the MCAT again and reapply. I think my current MCAT score is really hurting my chances.

April:
PS 10
V 7
BS 10
W P

July:
PS 8
V 11
BS 8
W O

3.8 cGPA/sGPA at an engineering school
1st author research publication
CNA for a summer
senior research thesis at biotech company
captain of varsity volleyball team
shadowed primary care doctor
2 months work at nonprofit low vision org. in australia
president of biology honor society
leadership positions in sorority
currently doing cancer research during my year off

Please help??

What's the outcome of these interviews, or are u waiting on decisions?

Statistically, ur chances of admission are about 1 for every 3 interviews.

It would help to know the state you're from. In some states with more forgiving med schools, your good ECs, and strong cGPA would get you in despite the lowish MCAT score. You may get off a wait list in May/June, too, so don't give up. But plan for a possible reapplication cycle, and keep involved in some of your ECs. And consider an MCAT retake.

That you got interviews suggests that they like you. Is it possible that you didn't interview well?

Well, my first 4 interviews resulted in R WL WL and one still waiting and my stats were all above the averages at those schools, so at least personally I am def starting to feel the heat.

But everyone is different so its really hard to say.

I'm from MA, so there is only one state school, which I have interviewed at. I'm actually still waiting to hear from all 4 schools.

BU (I: 10/7)- got deferred in Jan. to the March decision
Duke (I:10/27)- only accepts/rejects/waitlists in March
UMass (I: 11/3)- no decision
VCU (I:1/14)- hold message with no change on Feb. 1, waiting until March 16

I'm hoping to get a couple more interviews since I don't have any acceptances, but I'm not very hopeful.

Waiting really sucks... 🙁

Oh and...

I thought my BU and VCU interviews went very well (I really clicked with the interviewers, plus I liked the hour long interviews). My UMass and Duke interviews could have been better... (I was not a fan of having two half hour interviews)

It is possible that I don't interview very well. I'm on the shy side, which apparently was in one of my LORs because my BU interviewer mentioned it.

Were you waitlisted or deferred till March at BU? I thought they had only given out acceptances, rejections, and "deferred til Marches" so far. They have only let in 1/3 of the class, so you might still have a chance there. Also, the waitlist according to Dean W. is very short and very active, so keep him updated on your interest and activities, especially if you are WL in March. Also, have you sent "letters of interest" and that one "letter of intent" to all the schools you interviewed at and were not rejected? If it's been a while you might email them a new update on your continued interest and activities. Good luck and it's not over till it's over. If you are WL all around, don't be afraid to claw your way off those WL come May 15, there are lots of stories of people who have.

So you're still waiting for decisions? How does that = "no acceptances :'("?? Just wait and see what happens.

Sorry, just read previous post closer. So yeah, let Dean W. know why you are still interested in BU. And doesn't hurt to send follow-up emails to schools that have not rejected or interviewed you. Good luck!

Duke will be tough as it only accepts about 20% of the people they interview so you'll be fighting uphill with that MCAT score. That being said, since they interviewed you, you have a fighting chance.

Make sure you send updates to the schools about what you've done. Most schools are interested in it, and if it's written professionally the letter won't hurt at any school.

Must be the MCAT. Like I said, the interview isn't everything... your entire file comes under review again by the adcom when they meet to discuss you post-interview.

If you completely fail out this year you at least you know what to do for next year, lol. GPA is hard to fix, but MCAT isn't.

If a school had issue enough with your MCAT to reject you, would they offer the interview to begin with?

If your MCAT + GPA isn't under scrutiny, why is it reviewed by the adcom again post-interview? Maybe they wanted to give you a chance to demonstrate something beyond MCAT + GPA that would set you apart from somewhat with slightly higher MCAT + GPA but less EC's, for example. I know that, at the school I'm most interested in, communication skills and passions/activities are converted into a point system (subjectively) to be added to the objective parameters.

Just wondering, where did you get this information? I've heard this before, but I would like to see an article or some data showing it.

Dont worry, you havent been rejected yet! i would say wait until march to see what happens! if your MCAT was the issue you wouldnt get those interviews in the first place!! it will happen just be patient, good luck :luck:

congratulations on getting 4 interviews. i think the problem might be ur mcats.
