Are you a Georgia resident? I would add Mercer too they have a lower median MCAT than MCG.

Any shadowing? How about clinical experiences? Nonclinical experiences? You’ve got a great GPA. What happened with the MCAT? Did you freeze up? Have anxiety issues? What were your scores on your practice tests?

Yes. Ok. Thank you!

Because of technical difficulties Mercer sent out their secondary this last Monday. So you are not late in applying at all. MCG sent it early July, Florida and morehouse sent it mid July. So you might have lower chances with these schools but I still think you got a shot at Morehouse

Yes, I’ve shadowed a primary care physician. (40 hours)
Non clinical- Internships with DOE labs (3) , Academic tutor .
I think it was my anxiety. It took me a while to get comfortable in the testing area. Practice was 505, 507, 508.

Well that’s a pretty big drop from practice tests to real test. You’ll probably be okay at the schools you have listed(I’m not sure but your GPA is so good...) but if you retake and score 510 you’d open so many doors. But don’t retake until you get your anxiety under control and you are consistently scoring at or above your target goal. When are you applying? Good luck!

I have my application ready to submit now. BUT with my MCAT score, I was planning to retake and apply next year . (I’m considering sending my application in and hoping for a miracle. ) Thanks for your input btw ❤️

Yikes. Someone stepped on your toes.

I just think it's silly that they aren't being realistic about their options considering their MCAT score. It's not like they scored a 505 and are wondering what chances they have. They scored a 498. If they want to waste their time, money, and energy applying this cycle then more power to them. At the end of the day though, if they want to be a physician above all else then they'll do what's necessary to make that a reality.

I get that. Really, and I think OP also gets the fact that their chances are not the best, which is why they made this post. What I commented on was the sass or, in my opinion, rudeness in which you replied. Could have just said, “I don’t think you have a decent chance this cycle I advise retaking.” I did not comment on the validity of your opinion, I commented on your tone. Take it easy.

Fair enough. I've just been jaded by these kinds of posts at this point and I apologize.

Takes a great man/ women to apologize and an even greater one to do it on the internet so salutes to you!

And don’t be jaded! You will do great things in life and meet many intelligent people who take your sassy advice. This forum will be in the back of your mind, trust me!

Thanks for the kind words! Best of luck to you with your application cycle (now or in the future).

I agree with candbgirl; if you are very eager to get in this cycle, your best chances would be at the HBCU’s and your state schools. However, with your excellent GPA, URM, and adequate EC’s, retaking the MCAT and score 510+ would open several doors to mid-top tier schools next cycle, with the addition of increased hours in whatever EC’s you continue.

With the FL scores you had while working full-time, easing your work schedule to dedicate time to study for the MCAT again would most likely ensure a great score, and allow you to matriculate at your dream school in 2020.

Decent chances at HBCUs and DOs. I know it’s rough working and pulling this stuff off, you’ll have to decide for yourself if the retake is work it.

Update: I Applied. My God is GREATER than test scores. I’ve been blessed to have great experiences conducting research at a Tier 1 research institute & completed internships at pretty respectable places which helped my application. I also have a pretty interesting life story(very rural area).

Submitted primary to 7 schools .
Received 7 secondaries .
4 interviews. Yes FOUR. 1 acceptances so far (really praying for the other 3).

congratulations, could you please tell me from which schools you got interview? thank you in advance.

Many ignorant SDN users on this post.

"There are 224 Black applicants that applied with a GPA in the range of 3.80 - 4.00 and an MCAT in the range of 24-26. Out of those applicants, 188 were accepted to at least one medical school."
84% Acceptance rate

I'm glad you didn't follow anyone's advice on this thread.

Morehouse. MCG. Georgetown. UAB.

Hey Plt13, would it be possible if we chat privately. I have a very similar application and was hoping you can help. Thank you so much for your consideration and I look forward to your message soon.
