I realize its a little early, but my school wants us to start setting up our 4th year schedule, more specifically (june - Oct). I think I am leaning towards IM (70% IM, 30% Anes as of now). So I am scheduled for a General IM Sub-I at Botsford hospital in June (DO hospital, but has alot of fellowships), and was going to do another Sub I in july at an allopathic place. I live in MI and probably was going to do all my 4th year rotations in MI, I want to do my residency in the Midwest also, I am leaning towards the MD match as I really want to do a Fellowship, unless I find a DO hospital that I like that has good fellowships...

Rough schedule:
June - General Sub-I IM, Botsford
July - General Sub-I IM, (Henry Ford, Beaumont, Oakwood, UofM.. whichever place is open that month)
August - 2 weeks vacation, Take comlex and usmle step 2..
2 Weeks of either GI, ID, Anes, Ent, Radio (something easy)
Sept - either do a required ER rotation, or some form of IM elective
Oct - Family Medicine required or Neurology Required.

I was going to get a letter from both General Sub I and hopefully have them when I submit my app on Sept 1st. Any opinions or advice? Is it a waste to do 2 General Sub Is, or should I do a IM subspecialty?

Thanks guys, also if anybody else has any questions for 4th year electives, I recommend you post in this thread..

Your schedule looks solid for a guy who is planning on matching IM. If you are seriously considering anesthesia, that schedule is less ideal. I would try to sort that out, if possible, before scheduling. If you are really on the fence, your first rotation of fourth year should be anesthesia rather than an IM subI.

Thanks for the feedback. I liked my 2 week Anes rotation last month so to get more exposure if its the right field for me I scheduled an elective at a hospital with a residency in May. And if I still think Anes is right for me, I might change up my 4th year schedule then... I don't know what I want to do, I liked all my rotations so far (except peds argh!), I figure going into IM will give me the most flexibility sub-specialty wise, and it was the most fun rotation for me...
