Hey

I am winding down my 4th year and tryign to figure out what to schedule for my next and final elective. I'm torn between doing something SUPER chill liek derm, rads, ophtho. Or if I should do something liek neurosurgery so that I can study anatomy and such for my future as a neurologist. Or the third option is to do some medicine based elective like a general medicine month so that I can be better prepared for intern year. The only real rotations I've done this year is one month of ID in September and I am currently doing a SICU rotation (MICU and NICU were unavailable)

Any advice?

Thanks.

Honestly? Do any rotation that isn't neurology. You may never get a chance to experience some of these specialties for the rest of your career. So have fun with it. 😳

Some electives I did as a 4th year included ophtho, ent and anesthesia.

FYI, as a neurology resident you will complete a month of neurosurgery, psychiatry, neuropathology and neuroradiology. You will almost certainly complete a rotation in emergency medicine and ICU as an intern.

For my 4th year I am planning on:

Cardio
EM
Neurorads
ICU 2x (medical and neuro)
Nephro
Neurology

and a few others

if I'm interested in child neuro, should i take all peds versions of the electives or the adult versions? i figure since i would have to do 2 years of peds PGY, then might as well take all peds electives, but maybe i'm wrong on that.

should i take a lot of neuro related electives, or leave those for internship/residency, and in 4th year take electives outside neuro, like ortho, ent, derm, etc?

how's this list?

ophtho
Peds neuro
Emergency Pediatrics
Pediatric Neurosurgery
NeuroRadio
Neuropath or peds neuropath
Peds endo
Peds Infect
Peds Cardio
Externship in Inpatient Pediatrics
Pediatric Critical Care

thanks.
