anyone have any info on doing an international pediatrics elective during ms4?

i'm thinking africa, south america, or even europe (i think it'd be fun to see how medicine is practiced there while also doing the tourist thing when i'm off)

I've always wanted to visit Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children in London. As you say, it'd be interesting to see difference in the NHS there. Plus London is a fantastic city!

Vienna was fantastic and getting a spot was uncomplicated

South America won't work well, IMHO, unless you speak one of the two languages for the correct country fairly well, not just h.s. Spanish. Africa is highly variable and usually depends on having connections and knowing what you want to do. Europe, at a place you speak the language is a good bet and often not too hard to arrange. Also look outside London if you go to the UK, I did my elective many decades ago in Birmingham, England and had a great time.

I'm probably too late and you already have everthing figured out, but I did 3 months pediatrics elective in Ghana... Was super easy to organize. You would have to pay "tuition" though, which is something like $200 for 4 weeks?
Since English is the official language, all doctors, nurses and even some patients will speak it ;-)
A pretty safe country, too. As far as Africa goes at least.

I would ask around at your school for people who have gone abroad before. My med school had an international programs office, which was very helpful for arranging things for a lot of people, and could help set something up just about anywhere. I spent three months doing a clinical/public health project in Zambia, and had a great time. It was a fairly independent project, which required a good deal of advance planning, but was well worth it.
