4th year research question.

Hi all.

I'm a third year ms3 at an allopathic school and am planning to go into anesthesia. We're scheduling our fourth year soon, and I'm planning to do some research. Our chair is kind of a big deal apparently, and I've heard that researching with her almost guarantees a lor. However, she's booked for research until October. Do you think it'd be worth it to do research then even though (I assume) I couldn't put it on my eras until November 1st. So although programs might not see it until after interviews are awarded, I'd still be able to talk about the research during my interviews.

The other option would be to try to set up research with someone else in July or August.

Research-wise, I've done a year of laboratory/clinical research before med school and a summer of clinical research during college. Both not analesthesia-related.

Thanks for the help.

You can certainly start working on a research project prior to your scheduled research month. In fact, you should start prior, since you will want to read up on the background literature. If you're at UTH, then you're talking about the airway guru Dr. Hagberg, so you might want to check out Benumof's book. Either way, you should meet with your mentor well before the month, so you can hit the ground running. It's perfectly appropriate to list this on ERAS. Your interviews won't start until around the time you've started your research. You wouldn't get the letter from her, but she could still put in a call to programs for you, since there's plenty of time between November and February when rank lists are due.
