I thought I had a heart attack for a second before my scores posted...just sayin.

AA = 19
TS = 19
BIO = 19
GC = 22 👍
OC = 17 :meanie:
RC = 21
QR = 18
PAT= 22

Overall I am really happy with my scores. I say this with the following in mind.

I am in my second week of taking Orgo 1
I have only taken Cellular and Organismal Biology
I took Gen Chem 1 in the Spring semester and tested out of Gen Chem 2.

So I have only sat in lectures for 3 science classes after coming back to school to complete my pre-requisites ('06 Management Grad). I am 28 and have a Overall GPA of 3.2 and that includes about 28 credits of post-bacc pre-reqs at a 4.0.

Materials: Chad's GC & OC, DAT Destroyer, Math Destroyer, Kaplans BB, Topscore, Crack DAT for PAT & RC, Cliffs AP Bio, several biology outlines from SDN.

Schedule: about 10 weeks at 8-10 hours a day using DentalWorks Study plan. The nice thing for me was that my classes were directly related to my DAT studying so that was nice. I had been working to teach myself O-chem for about 5 months...ah well.

BIO: I got pretty lucky I guess with the selection of questions I had because I don't have a great bio background. Some pretty random stuff on there, but nothing too crazy. I definitely think that using the outlines and making flashcards is the way to go. I just think that trying to read all of the books is to daunting a task for anyone. I think Topscore is a pretty solid indicator of score here, because they take questions on their tests from Campbell's. I made a couple of stupid mistakes that I would love to have back, but such is life.

GC: I knew that I did really well on this section. My guess is that I got 3 wrong, but I couldn't tell you how. I finished Chem thinking I would have a 25 or higher in it. Destroyer and Chad...that's all really. Destroyer is quite a bit harder than the real thing and Chad is great for telling you where the tricks come in.

OC: Ugh! I had more theoretical stuff than I would of liked. I felt like I had a good grasp on reactions from Chad's videos and Destroyer. All the studying in the world can't make up for actually learning it though. Destroyer and Chad are meant to be reinforcers of learned information, not substitute teachers. If I were to retake in August after taking Orgo 1 & 2 I think this could have also been a low 20's score.

RC: I did not get Piano'd. I got three nice reads and was able to finish them in plenty of time (3 minutes to spare) I basically did search and destroy mixed with a full skim in the first 5 minutes. I think Crack DAT is representative of this section more than Topscore because Topscore is all S&D and no inference questions where Crack DAT incorporates some inference.

PAT: Crack DAT is harder in every section than the real thing. Hole punching is no where near as difficult on the real thing. Pattern folding is easier, angles are easier, keyholes are easier...Crack DAT is top notch in preparing for the PAT.

QR: Math Destroyer....did 5 tests and Topscore did the 3 tests. I did better in the practice tests than on the actual, but I kinda figured I would get what I got. I didn't really care about the complicate sin, cos, tan stuff and just clicked a guess on the 4 questions I had like that. Story problems were fine for me. Just plug and chug mostly. The thing with QR, IMO, is that you realize that you're close to seeing your score and you almost stop caring so much. If you have researched at all you have it in your mind that you don't really need a great math score and you just want to see your OTHER scores. Rushing occurs where a clearer head would help.

I am applying June 1 to my instates (State of Michigan) and a couple others...is the 17 gonna be a huge problem do ya think? I sure as hell hope not.

Congrats, those are impressive for someone who works and goes to school as much as you do.

You took the dat without any Orgo? Thats pretty impressive, and IMO, the 17 isn't going to make you look bad.... especially since you earned it WITHOUT taking Orgo.

I would call Patty from U of Mich and ask to see her in person. Do the same with Mercy (Karen left Mercy so I don't knows taking over her place).

Overall, Go enjoy the rest of your night, I doubt you'll need to retake.

Yea dude definitely get in touch with Pattie Katcher, her email is "Katcher, Patricia" <[email protected]>, very nice lady, she will definitely point you in the right direction. She came to MSU this past semester, I got acquainted with her and all, shes giving me some great advice and I'm sure she will help you out as well.

Best of Luck!

you mentioned that you used topscore. how did you score in topscore compare to the real test. thanks for any feedback

Well....the thing with my Topscore tests is that I may have underestimated my use of the "solution" button when it came to O-Chem. I averaged around 20 on my Topscore tests for TS and AA. My PAT's were a little higher on Topscore than CrackDAT though, like 23-24.

I tried hard not to use that damn solution button, but it's just sitting there....waiting to tell you that you got it right or that you really did know the answer and your mind was only briefly clouded by something else.

Overall I feel that Topscore is a very good represenstation on all of the sections for sciences.

Yea, I have had a couple of meetings with Pattie over the last year and also went to their open house in April. I will definitely be calling her tomorrow and setting up a meeting in person for the earliest time available. Just want to make sure that my scores are okay with the 17 included and all. I really really really don't wanna take the thing again in August.

Maize and Blue Through and Through. :laugh::laugh:

My brother-in-law just graduated from MSU this year though...he was in the Lyman Briggs college...so I have gotten a never ending stream of it from him the last 3 years. He's applying to D-school in June as well.

Man, I was really hoping that destroyer + chads would be enough for o-chem! It has been a while since I took the series so I'm learning alot from these materials...

What kinds/types of conceptual questions were there that gave you trouble
?

The ones with concepts....j/k.

Honestly, it's tough for me to even describe just because I really didn't know what I was reaching for when I came across them. I just kind of went with an "educated" guess.

If you have taken O-Chem before at all I think you will be fine with Chad's and Destroyer...I also am fairly certain that I effed up and made 2-3 easily fixable mistakes. Know the reactions as well as you can, the IR questions were honestly pretty easy and I didn't have any amino / carbo questions which was a bonus.

Hope that helps and GOOD LUCK!!
