Hi all,

I had a realization today - I will have a total of 5 different institutions making up some portion of my pre-reqs for vet school. 1 is my original undergrad degree (no sciences, 1 math class), 1 is my first post-bacc institution (all sciences), 1 is my second cheaper post-bacc (all sciences), and the last 2 will have max 1-2 courses that are either English or science pre-reqs that were essentially to save money or work with a difficult schedule. Do we think this is a problem for vet schools? I’m worried that schools will see me as flaky, when I was truly just trying to get classes done as efficiently and cheaply as possible.

I sent 6 different transcripts, some from classes taken in high school for dual credit, some from schools that I took classes at because my university didn't offer them, then my primary university and the school I transferred from. I had an interviewer tell me that I had attended more institutions than he had lectured at lol. They don't care how many transcripts you're sending as long as the grades you submit on vmcas reflect the grades on your transcripts, it's not all that uncommon for people to take classes at different colleges and therefore have a lot of different transcripts.

Phew, ok thanks! I’m worried enough about schools being upset that anything will be taken at a community college, let alone just taking them at too many colleges!

I had 3 different schools I sent transcripts from, and nobody seemed to have any issue with it. I think the important thing is just that you meet all of the requirements for each school you apply to.

My calculus and microbiology courses were taken at community colleges (first as dual enrollment in high school, second because the only microbiology professor at my school went on sabbatical), no one seemed concerned about it although I did have one school try to give me a hard time because the credits were completed when I wasn't a "full time student" because I was only enrolled in two courses at the community college (because I was a high school student taking a full courseload of high school classes and was just getting college credits for a couple of the courses). All I had to do was write a letter to that school and they were fine with it and ended up accepting me lol

I’m in the same boat with microbiology - my current university campus doesn’t appear to be offering a non-nursing general micro class for the foreseeable future, so I’m likely going to be stuck taking it at the local community college. I also couldn’t stomach the idea of paying 4-year tuition for English composition when I graduated with a humanities-based liberal arts degree and got extremely high verbal & writing GRE scores. I’ve verified with a number of schools whether or not they’ll accept community college credit, just a couple more I have to find the courage to email, including the one closest to my current home. Thanks for the input!

Chiming in as another multiple-transcript weirdo. I had three, and it was absolutely no problem (besides being a pain in the butt during VMCAS and having to pay for each to be sent in . . . grumble).

Also a multi transcript person with a way more than average number of classes taken, many at a community college, and I received admission offers to several schools. Also, I recently saw the survey of admitted students and I think it was around 50% of students had taken classes at a community college (I can’t find it right now to give the exact stats). My only recommendation is start putting your classes in early because it takes FOREVER.

Basically what everyone else said. There are some school that just don’t offer the courses you want to take. Some have it but not when you want to take it. Others have it but the class is full when you want to take it. It’s not so much like a job interview where they’ll look at it like a resume and wonder why you jumped around from job to job. You took the classes you needed to take, and that’s mostly what matters. Some schools look into the difficulty of the program (Cornell comes to mind) but that’s the only thing I can think of. It really shouldn’t be a problem at all.

What I really wanted to add is that you should make sure you send your transcripts to VMCAS as early as you can in the cycle. If you’re finishing up classes in, say, first summer semester, then send those transcripts once you’re finished those classes since you’ll still have plenty of time. That way you won’t need to send final transcripts to the schools directly since you’ll already be done and they’ll have your final transcripts. But make sure you get everything in early in the summer so that you’re not scrambling. Look at how your schools make the transcripts accessible. Some allow you to send your transcripts online. Others make you mail them through the school. I thought my undergrad school did it online and it turned out I was wrong. I had to drive to the school and have my transcript overnighted like 10 days before the deadline. It takes a week, sometimes more to process the transcript once VMCAS receives it. Since you have 5 transcripts, that’s more of a chance for something to get messed up in the process, so give yourself plenty of buffer room so that you’re not stressing about it. Don’t be like me and wait to the last minute hoping everything will work out. The sooner you get it done, the easier it is to fix anything that needs to be fixed.

I had 5 different transcripts and I was worried it would look bad. I even called the admissions offices and asked. They absolutely did not care. They just want to see that you completed the courses and the grades you got.

I had 3 transcripts. I think having multiple is fairly common.

You got this. 🙂

I’m just going to chime in and agree...

Plan your summer around plugging in all those transcripts into VMCAS! At least their program is actually pretty user friendly.
