5 LORs too much?

Okay I have five reccs in. Three are from professors, a chemistry professor, biology professor, and microbiology professor. Two are from dentists I have shadowed, one is actually a facial pain specialist. If a school asks for only two letters, how do I send only two? The large gorilla at our LOR storage place here at UF tells me they all have to be sent out if I put them on file. More can't hurt I'm sure, but is this okay? 🙄

I've read on some dental school websites that it is okay to send more, but they won't be read.

You can send 5, but make sure that the "required" LORS from each school are met. For instance, if a school requires 1 letter from biology professor and 1 from chemistry professor and 1 from the dentist, then make sure that these LORs will be in your application. The additional LORS sometimes will be read and sometimes will be not, but make sure the "required" ones are there. However, don't send more than 5, because it might shows that you are not confident in yourself and therefore you did not select the right person to write letters for you.

You'll be fine. All of them will be sent out to your schools if you use AADSAS and I am 99.9% sure you won't be penalized by those schools whose minimum is only two.

hahahaha... I know exactly who your talking about.. the lady in OHLPA. she told me the same thing. I am sending 4, not that far off from yours.

Are you having them send it to AADSAS, or directly to the dental schools?

Well, its a little different. We have a agency type organization on campus that holds all of our personal statements. when the matching form is available, we will get those out to our recc writers and then give them to the agency. the agency will then send them out to AADSAS.

but i have heard that they can go out to the schools directly as well.. its something that you might need to clarify with aadsas. but through our service at UF, the agency will send it directly to aadsas. 😀

What are you guys gonna do about UF? Dr. Sposetti said many times during the meetings & workshops that UF is not welcome more than 3 letters. I have 4 too, just a little worried about UF. The other schools seem no problem with more letters.

I'm not sure...I didn't here that from Dr.Sposetti...and I seem to hear alot about what goes on there at the dental school at UF. Since it is not official, I'm assuming it is still okay to send more than 3. No where on the website did I see it as being bad to send more. Also, OLHPA only has my letters on file, not my personal statement...that, along with transcripts, a CV, and a brief essay about myself outside of my pursuits to be a dentist were included for each reccomender. God I am one big nerd haha.

I'm not sure about that as well... although i did get a chance to ask aadsas about that, and they basically said that what they tell everyone is 3, but we are more than welcome to send them more. they will just send out whatever we give them.. going back to what you said about UF. i guess the best thing would be to do is ask office of admissions. i do research at uf dental, ill swing by and ask them tommorow and post it.

Yah, applying when aadsas opens up. HAd a rough fresh yr, but hopefully gonna get in somewhere.
