I was just doing a kaplan gen chem problem and the change in temperature is: "350 K- 300 K is 50 K, which is equal to 50 degrees celsius." We are solving for the specific heat which has the units of "cal/(g)(Deg Celsius). Why is 50 K equal to 50 Deg Celsius?

-Thanks

celcius and kelvin have 1:1 ratio of change. When calculating the change in temperature, it will be the same, a change of 50 K = a change of 50 C.

for instance 0 degrees celcius = 273 K

if you increase the temp by 1, both kelvin and celcius increase by 1

a temperature of 50 degrees Celsius is NOT the same as a temperature of 50 K

HOWEVER, since they're on the same scale, a difference of 50 degrees Celsius is equivalent to a difference of 50 K.

In your example:

350 K = 77 degrees C
300 K = 27 degrees C

350 K - 300 K is the same as 77 degrees C - 27 degrees C
a difference of 50 K is the same as a difference of 50 degrees C

Thanks for the response. So whenever Delta T is being used, you can assume the 1:1 ratio for K to C....duhhhhhhhh

Correct, however -40 degrees F = -40 degrees C (from destroyer lol). I thought that was pretty cool.

yeah i remember seeing that lol. I'm taking my time going through it for the first time. Almost done with orgo and about 1/3 of the way through with gen chem.
