Hi all.

I took the MCAT in July and received a score of 506 (127,126,127,126). I graduated in may of 2018 with a degree in Biochemistry and molecular biology with a 3.38 undergrad gpa. Varsity athlete, SGA leadership position, two years of undergraduate med chem/drug discovery research, wrote a grant and was awarded, volunteer experience in underserved schools, organizations catering to people with special needs, and hospital volunteer experience in a children's BMT unit. Also have physician shadowing experience.

Florida Resident/Non URM

I am currently enrolled in an SMP program and have completed 6 courses and have a 3.95 gpa. I am looking to continue this trend into next semester courses and electives. I also plan on starting a clinical research internship at a hospital/clinic during my glide year.

I plan on applying to both MD/DO programs. Any suggestions/what are my chances on where I should be trying to achieve acceptance next cycle? Thanks!

In terms of MD you have a very good chance at Florida State, but that MCAT has to be near the 10% of all the other Florida Schools. The other schools you would be competitive that really jump out at me are:
Morehouse 37/100
Rowan 29/96
Howard 109/116
West Virginia 47/112
The parenthesis are the OOS acceptance rates. There might be a couple more low tier schools you can apply for, but not many without putting yourself well below the 10%

In terms of DO, apply to any school besides like the Texas schools or OSU. Your stats are competitive at all DO schools.

I suggest these schools with your stats:
ALL your Florida schools, including NOVA MD (but exclude Miami)
Quinnipiac
New York Medical College
Seton Hall
Drexel
Temple
Penn State
George Washington
Oakland Beaumont
Rosalind Franklin
Loyola
Creighton
Also apply to at least 6 DO schools and you are competitive for all DO schools.

It is obvious that his stats are more competitive for DO than MD, but why did you include all of the Florida schools when the next closest school has an MCAT of 512. That puts him well below the 10% even though he has an instate application boost. All of the other schools average him around the 10% with the exception of rosalind. I suppose there is a chance he gets one of the spots being in the 10% but statistics don't lie, a 506 MCAT isn't competitive for those schools

If you're boning for the MD, you have to retake the mCAT and score > 510.
Chances fine for any DO school.
