Hi everyone! I'm currently finishing up my AMCAS application. In April, I took my first MCAT attempt, and it came back as a 506. I'm obviously not very thrilled, and have since signed up to retake it later this month. I've looked at different sites, and nothing really gives me a definite answer: With a 506 MCAT, and a 4.0 GPA (as well as extensive research, REU's, shadowing, and extracurriculars throughout my undergrad career), do I have a good shot at getting into any middle/upper-tier medical schools?

Thank you!

MD acceptance rate for GPA > 3.79 and MCAT 506-509 is 64%. You will not have a chance at a "top" MD school with that score but still have a good chance for an MD acceptance provided the rest of your app is strong.

I wouldn't retake so soon - significant improvements generally take significant amounts of time. Consider applying with what you have or retaking next year if you are set on building a competitive app for the research heavy schools.
