I am an NJ resident and applied last year to NJDS (UMDNJ). I don't know what my AADSAS-calculated GPA was last year, but my school-calculated one was about a 3.5 (about the same for both science and cumulative). My DAT scores the first time I took it (for last cycle application) were as follows:
PAT 19
QR 15
RC 20
BIO 19
GC 16
OC 17
AA 17
TS 17
I got rejected from NJDS (and the other 3 schools I applied to last year: Maryland, Temple, Pittsburgh) without an interview.
This year, I retook the DAT and improved in all areas (see predents profile for scores), and my GPA has also increased thanks to earning straight A's my final two semesters of undergrad. I was interviewed at NJDS very early this cycle (second week of interviews, I believe). I attribute that to my DAT retake scores.
I am not trying to be a party-pooper; I'm just giving you my experience as an example. My advice for you is to retake. With your lower science GPA, you may need to score a 20 or above to get an interview at New Jersey, even though you are a state resident. But there are indeed other aspects of your application that they look at, so it is still a possibility that you will be interviewed.
As an FYI, during the presentations at the interview, it was stated that they look primarily at your sGPA and BCP because those relate to type of courses you will be taking in dental school. You may need to bring up your science GPA to get a shot at NJDS.
