Hello everyone from across the world!
Let me introduce myself. I'm a medical student, 5th year. My first three years were quite intense, with all the anatomy, phisiology, biochemistry, histology, pathology etc. Nevertheless, I studied and revised even though my days were spent between book covers. There were always dreams about the times where I'm on a clinic, learning clinical subjects from the best.
But after those 3 intense years came 4th. It was totally layed back atmosphere. No one was making an obligation out of lectures and practical part, so you would come if you knew that the proffesor is worth it.
Unfortunately, when the 4th year started, I found out that most of the proffesors were uninterested in spreading the knowledge. Most of our lectures were power point presentatilns with them reading a bunch of text. On clinic the situation was not any better. Most (not all) doctors behaved towars students as they were nuisance, and some didn't even bother to hold the class. They would send us to drink cofee.
Unfortunatelly, this was and is my studying for the past two years.

At start i found it quite relaxing, at least in comparison with first three years. But as the time passed by I had less and less motivation to go to the lectures, to study and to revise.

Now I find myself in 5th year and out of touch with everything. I want to start studying but i don't know where to start... I know i would be much better if i studied for the future days and not for the exams but the thing is - i was so adapt to study to pass the exams, and now i don't know what to study to build a foundation of a future doctor. I don't have the motivation and i fear i will suck once i get the degree...

I hope you can advise me, help me. Thank you everybody!

What medical school are you at where you don't go on rotations following MSII????? And why are you having lectures in MSIV?

I imagine that he's either foreign or he's in a 3 + 4 or a 4+4 program.

In either case it sounds like you're finding it difficult to study on your own. Talk to some upper classmates or maybe ask a learning specialist to give you a schedule to study off of.

In my country, medical school lasts 6 years with pre-clinical and clinical "phase". In each phase you have lectures, and after third year you have lectures plus clinical rotations. Those "rotations" are somewhat of a joke...to be honest.

The thing is... I always studied on my own, but right now i find it hard to study because i know i can pass without trying, teachers (doctors) don`t ask much of us and after some time I fell into this apathy without motivation.

Do you have some advices how to study by yourself, for future? That`s my problem. I know i`ve forgot a lot from first year, from subjects like anatomy, histology, pathology and i would love to revise them, while learning important clinical stuff but I just don`t know how to start...

Your country sounds suspiciously like a country about to be formerly known as European.
