Step I 6-7 weeks live kaplan course

Anyone have any experience with this course in houston, or any other city? I am torn between taking a live kaplan course and investing so much time/money, vs just studying on my own with a 15 day kaplan intense prep course as a suppliment in my home town. If any one has any experience in participating in one of those 6-7 week kaplan programs, I'd love to hear about it. Thanks so much.

Bump... I'm trying to see whether it would be worth dropping the extra $$ for the Kaplan 6 week course for Step I is worth it (vs. the standard 3 week course they offer on campus). If anyone has any info (pros or cons) about the Kaplan 6 week course, esp. the one at Rutherford, NJ, that would be great. Thanks!

I think it really depends on what type of student you are, if lectures aren't your style then you will want to avoid kaplan. Personally, you put me in a comfortable room, and start talking to me, I will be asleep within 15 minutes. All the information is out there, and easily accessed with a little planning. Look on SDN for what books people used that did well on the step, go with those.

Something to think about; even if you are a person who enjoys lectures you need time to learn this material and that just means sitting around doing the grunt work. I don't know very many people that can get the nitty gritty and retain it from lecture...it just takes time.

Take my advice with a grain of salt. I have never taken a kaplan course, instead, I have gone with the "teach yourself" route" which has worked well.
