So I just got back from taking the DAT and am fairly disappointed. My scores are:
PA: 18
QR: 19
RC: 21
Bio: 20
Gen Chem: 18
Orgo: 14
TS: 18
AA:18

I took this the first time over a year ago and had a 17 AA (with 18 orgo so I don't know wtf happened now) and am wondering where to go from here. My BCP gpa is under 3.00 and I realize these scores combined with that gpa are just not gonna cut it. Do I take it again it 90 days? I studied for about 4 weeks this time (3-4 hours a day) with only the Kaplan blue book and Crack Dat (PAT, Science, and QR). I feel a little defeated am even wondering if dental school is still worth it given that it is going to be such a huge climb to actually get there. Thanks for any advice.

wowz it would have been a nice score only if you performed well in ochem... did u run out of time in that section or something?

w/ ur bcp below a 3.0 and ur DAT scores, it will be an uphill climb. its only worth it if u think it is.

Ouch..tough luck man..

if you dont mind..what exactly went wrong in OCHEM..did you do any practice test, what were your scores...and u did not use anything other than KBB?

All I know is that using the kaplan blue book alone is a HUGE limiting factor in your studies. I also took the DAT last year and only used the kaplan book to study. Lets just say I learned my lesson. If you can go and get some more supplemental material like chads videos or some other text books. Other then your orgo score, everything else is in ok shape. So What I would do is I would take some classes this fall or spring to raise up the GPA (post-bac if you already graduated) and take the test again when you have some free time. Like molar3 said, it will be an uphill climb but im sure you'll be ok if you are a good climber.

Opps didn't see that you also used CtD for the sciences. I still recomend you use more material, atleast for the orgo and genchem section.

Spider, its all about how much you want it.

I took the DAT last year and scored a 16AA on it. Yes, I only used the KBB as well. I was so close to giving up. But, I realized theres nothing else I can see myself doing but being a dentist so I buckled down and I'm putting my heart and soul into this thing. ITS GOTTA GET DONE!

So, if you want it, you can do it. Hard work and dedication will get you there.

BTW, how did the actual Bio section compare to the CDP Bio?

Thanks for the input!

Now that I've had a little time to think about it, I'm actually not it that bad of shape. Everything is fine other than the orgo so if I bust my butt on that and continue looking over everything else I feel like I should beast it in 90 days (it is 90 days, correct?).
Also, Can someone direct me on where to get Chad videos cause I've heard those are amazing.
Finally, I have the bio section of the Kaplan blue book memorized so I figure the next step is to get Cliffs AP, yes? Thanks everyone!

Jab1113- The real sciences was way easier than Crack.

Awesome!

Heres the link for Chads Videos (Amazing stuff): http://www.course saver.com/cmps_index.php (course saver is one word fyi)

Best of luck and yes 90 days is the wait period.

gpa is a lil low so masters program would help...n yes retake the dat. ihad the same problem with my dat ...took it three times...last two times my AA was 17 but the third time i buckled down n seriously considered if i wanted to be a dentist at all and the answer was yes so i did what i can to get my AA to 21 and TS 22...its achievable...i studied for 2 1/2 months and 10 hrs a day...i quit my job and gave up having a life except on wknds..came up with an intense study plan and did it all over again...after i finished my boss called and asked me to come bak to work =) so it was like i never left...u can do it just have faith n confidence in urself and truly truly devote urself for this test. there are some that can easily study for 3or 4 weeks and do amazing...i however knew i needed a lot more time and i made it happen...goodluck with ur future endeavors and success =)

One more question about the 90 day wait. Does that mean I have to wait 90 days before applying to take it again or can I apply tomorrow to take it again in 90 days? Thanks.

Theres your main problem right there. I know its been done before where a few folks studied for 2-3 weeks and 4-5 hours a day and got 23s but... for most of us (non-supermans), we will require more time (in your case, about 2-3 times more time).

A more logical (and efficient) study plan is 8-10 weeks long with 8+ hours a day. Include DAT destroyer, MATH destroyer, and Chads chemistry videos. This should almost guarantee you a better score

I think you can apply tomorrow but there is some updates that needs to be done internally at ADA regarding your today's test..and till that is done they will not process your application...this happened to a friend..no biggy it takes like 2-3 weeks for them to update..but your 90 day period still starts from today..

Use his guide and adapt it to your study habits. You need to study more.
