So I know I need 6 credits of English for some schools. I currently have 3 and will be taking 3 more either my second to last or last semester of college. The damn class I wanted is full right now and I am NOT willing to jump onto a high level poetry course or something. NOoooo Thanks!

I decided to just take another "english" even though I have like 12 credits of higher level writing intensive courses as a history major which fulfilled my schools second writing requirement like 4 times over. So my question is: How do schools know if this requirement is fulfilled with my History classes+my first English? Obviously this question applies to those schools where its OK for it to be something OTHER than English.

Also, will schools really care if it is done during my LAST semester if my MCAT writing is high...? I know they say they want it done before matriculation but does it even play a role in decisions?

In my case, my premedical committee letter indicated that normal completion of the graduation requirements (which included a writing-intensive class) was considered to have fulfilled professional school English requirements. On my applications, the adcoms either accepted my Russian Lit class automatically, or I wrote it in as an English class on those secondaries where you had to list coursework.

Only one school, of the 27 I applied to, did not accept the substitution off the bat. I called them, explained that the class was reading and writing-intensive, and it was totally fine. Really, it's not a problem. I think when med schools say "English," what they really mean is "classes where you read, write, and think critically" and they get that you can do that in many departments.
