We have a two week ortho requirement. Overall, we have eight 2-weekers in various specialties (ortho, ophtho, uro, gas, rads, oto, lab/EKG, derm) that are geared for the generalist, but still give you some exposure to these disciplines.
As for 6 weeks of medicine, that's what we do and I actually feel a little shafted. Many students I've talked to say they have more (8-12 weeks). But IMO the medicine rotation lays the groundwork for the entire clinical experience (I've even heard that the surgery shelf exam is most internal medicine, but I can't say from experience).
we get 12 weeks of medicine all at once. unfortuantely for me, that will be immediately following my surgery and family medicine rotations (it'll be nice learning pertinent information AFTER my first two shelf exams.)
