Hi guys this might be a stupid question but, upon looking at the fall 2008 class statistics for UCSF, it seems like they accept a disproportionate number of women to the pharmacy program than guys (something like 76% F vs. 24% M). Is this because pharmacy is more of a female type of a job or because less men want to do pharmacy or because men aren't wanted...? Can someone give me an explanation? I'm bummed out because I'm a guy and UCSF is my dream pharmacy school T_T

Stats for the 2013 class, or class entering in the Fall of 09, has been posted several times here, so it pays off to do reserach on this forum as well. 😉
This year, it's almost an equal proportion of men to women something like 45 to 55 % if I remember correctly.
I wouldn't be hung up on your gender so much if I was you, gender will not be an obstacle to attending. I'd instead exercise my best abilities in order to make myself an excellent candidate with desirable for admission qualities. 🙂
Men to women ratio for our 2013 class is 35 to 65 (so about 2 to 1 now). The fall 2008 statistic where you have 25 to 75 was the oddball year.
Seems like sooooo many guys in our class, women are severely underreprsented.
And if UCSF is your dream pharmacy school, good luck. You'll need to have some major things to get in... one being a state resident, second having a bachelors, etc.
remember that programs in California like UCSF and USC require bachelor degrees in order to apply. Except USC is the only one that explicitly states this on their website.
I forgot about USC, but UCSF does not necessarily REQUIRE a bachelor's degree, although your chances of getting in are much, much higher if you DO have a degree. I know for a fact that there are some people in our program that did not have degrees before entering. You can also see these statistics on the admissions website.
Oh, really?one being a state resident
- Do you give preference to applicants from California colleges?
No.
00.00% no degree
00.82% Associate's degree
96.72% Bachelor's degree
02.46% Graduate degree
I went on UCSF and looked up the percentage... GEEZ I didn't know it was that low accepting non degree people.... :O

Very, very true... That's why I'm avoiding Cali schools... I'm fine with my "associates/no degree" self 🙂All CA schools are like that because they don't require the PCAT for admission, I suspect.
your dream pharmacy school? lol
The statistics are so because that year they had more applicants that they liked who happened to be women.
There is no gender bias, there are tons of men who want to be pharmacists.
There are other schools that typically have a larger female/male ratio.
Ex.) UT is 60/40, one year it was 65/35
UCSD is usually 55/45, sometimes 50/50
