So I just finished taking my DAT and my scores are as follows:
PA/QR/RC/Bio/GC/OC/TS/AA
21/18/20/24/22/22/23/21

I am a Business major with about a 3.4 overall GPA and a 3.8 science (BCP) GPA.
I am heavily involved in several different organizations at my respective university and have about 50 shadowing hours. I am a Texas resident and am hoping to score an interview at one of the 3 dental schools in my home state, which can be quite difficult to get in to. I am wondering wether or not I should retake my DAT. While my scores are decent right now, I feel that I could have done a lot better on the test. My timing was off and I ended up guessing on and leaving a couple of questions completely blank in the G chem and O chem sections. As a result, I thought I was going to have to retake and gave a lackadaisical effort on the last 3 sections (PAT, RC, & QR).

I appreciate any input. Also if anybody wants me to write a breakdown I can try and give you some very good advice on how to study for each section.

Are you applying this cycle?
A 21 is pretty solid, 3.4 overall is a average, one of my friends got into Baylor with similar stats and a 20 DAT but he was a minority so he had a bit of leniency. I wouldnt worry too much about the 21. Unless you're planning on applying next cycle I dont think a retake would hurt. Just make sure you can improve.

I'm planning on applying this cycle. I really don't want to have to take the test again. While I would prefer to go to a Texas dental school, I will most likely apply to at least 7 other out of state schools. I really just want to secure an acceptance this cycle.

Random question, but is it easy to go back to your reviewed questions? I am having this horrible thought that I might click done on accident thinking it will take me to the page that lets me review my marked questions but instead making me go to the next section..

Dude, you guessed a lot and got a 22 and 23 on the chemistries? Pretty good !

Not quite, I got a 22 GC and 22 OC. By the time I got to the OC section I only had 13 minutes to do 30 questions, so I ended up guessing an a lot of questions and left 2 blank. I think I had a timing problem because I never took a full practice DAT before I took my real one. I just took a bunch of different subject practice tests, which in retrospect was a bad move.

I found it kind of difficult to review my questions. I had to click back from question to question to review mine, its not like in bootcamp where you can just click on a question you marked on the bottom of the screen. If there was a way to review your questions in a similar way you can review bootcamp or q vault marked questions I didn't know how to do it. Maybe I should've paid more attention to the 15 minute tutorial.

Oh I always thought that when you mark as you go along theres like an end page right before moving to the next section that lets you go to marked questions. Hm

There might be, but I had no idea how to find that page. When I got to the end of a section I expected the page with all the marked/unmarked questions to be there but it wasn't.

That's unfortunate.. all practice material seems to let you go back. Guess it varies.

There is. And if you don't mark some of them and just leave them blank, that end page will have the option to review incomplete questions and/or marked questions. (There's also an option to review all questions for that section.)

Alright good to hear. Hopefully the button is far from the finish button so I don't misclick or something.

If you are on that end-of-section page and click next, (and still have time remaining) a pop up will ask if you're sure you want go on to the next section.

Excellent DAT scores and GPA.

I would call the 3 Texas dental schools directly and discuss your stats. I would not retake the DAT, you will not get the same test and their is always the risk of scoring lower.

Make sure your personal statement is well written and catches their attention. Unless I am missing something, I see no reason you should not receive interviews.

Wishing you the best..

Nancy
