Hi guys,

I am finally finished and am pleased with my scores 😀. Even though I am a newbie on this forum, I want to thank everybody for their useful and thoughtful suggestions for studying. This forum is truly a valuable resource for the DAT. I just wanted to share with you my scores and experiences about my DAT test. I studied for about 1.5 months using Destroyer, Kaplan Blue Book, Schaum's Biology, and Topscore. I thought that Destroyer was very useful for the Biology and Orgo sections while Kaplan covered general chemistry well. Topscore was good for the sciences and quantitative reasoning, but not as useful for the PAT or RC. Schaum's was too detailed, as many of the questions I remember on the biology section were not too specific, although there were a few application problems.

As many before me have done, I will provide a breakdown of each section.

PAT: Very similar to Crack the PAT. I thought the angles were actually easier than CDP. The paper folding problems were also easier, although there were a couple of tricky folds. Paper folding was kinda tough though :/ I was averaging 20 on the CDP tests, so this score wasn't really much of a surprise.

QR: The questions were fair although some of the word problems took some time to solve. My advice is to skip any problem that takes you more than 35 seconds to solve and come back to it later.

RC: To tell you the truth, I thought I did better on this section. My passages were fairly straighforward even though I had about 10 tone questions (not bad though). I skimmed each paragraph and made notes on my laminated paper to help me navigate through the questions without rereading the paragraphs.

Biology: This section was tough. I agree with many of you who say that some of the questions in this question are very random. You have to be prepared for anything. But a couple of runs through destroyer should prepare you adequately.

General Chemistry: Not too bad. I had about 3 or 4 calculation problems and a crazy problem where I had to balance a long equation. But most of the problems are covered in either Destroyer or Kaplan BB.

Organic Chemistry: I rushed through this section to save more time for the other sciences. There were about ten reaction problems and a few isomer questions, so prepare for these. I didn't have any lab questions, but I'm sure my test was just an exception.

Anyways, I'm off to celebrate:hardy: PM me if you guys have any questions. Best of luck to those of you are studying 🙂

My scores:

PAT: 19
QR: 21
RC: 20

Nice. What do you use to study for the QR section?

Thanks guys. I thought Topscore was the best practice for QR. The Kaplan practice tests were also on par with the real thing. For those of you who want more practice, get a SAT II math study book. Try to do these without a calculator to work on your speed.
