7 year Dental Programs experiences

Hello Everyone!

I am still a high schooler thinking about getting into a 7 year Dental Program, but I was wondering:

a) Is it worth it?
b) Do you feel as prepared as someone who didn't go through the application process (aka 4 yr undergrad)
c) Do you still feel apart of the college atmosphere with the accelerated pace?

-Any other information is appreciated, anything!--

ALSO~~

I know some programs like the UF program is to be applied to after the 1st yr of college, yet it can be contrasted to Marquette where you can apply right out of High School, is there a concrete list of the ones you can apply to right out of high school vs the 1st year of undergrad.

Kid, looking back, if I had the opportunity at a 7 year program I would do it without hesitation.

I doubt I had the emotional maturity to sign up for a 7 year commitment. If you've decided at the age of 16 or 17 that you are set on being a dentist, and have the grades to prove you can handle it, by all means.

I was in a 3-4 BS/DDS program. I decided to opt out for a couple of reasons.

1) It is definitely worth it but you need to be motivated and keep on track. One reason why I couldn't finish it because you need to take your DAT a year earlier than when most applicants do. I simply didn't feel ready. Another, mentally I didn't feel ready/mature for dental school. This may be different for everybody.

2) Also as far as being prepared, I can tell you that I know some people who completed the program who are doing really well in dental school while others are heavily underprepared. I guess it's up to the individual.

3) You won't be missing out too much of the college experience in 1 year 🙄.

I think this is key. Applying early may be difficult. But, if you can do it, I think it is definitely financially worth it!
