To make a long story as short as I can...

10 years ago, I went into college with a premed, chemistry major mindset. Took statistics, calculus, 2 Chems, 2 bios and 1 anatomy and physiology, 1 physics, and psychology among all other basic courses. I made a's in all except a&p which I got a b. I had a horrid teacher who actually got fired for convincing students they would never make it in med school and I was one of her victims. She really broke you down and at 19 I was young and stupid and believed her.

Anyway, I ended up graduating with a bachelors in accounting and a MBA. After 5 years in accounting, and 8 years since deviating from my dream, I am back and am determined to become a physician!

My issues arise when it comes to the rest of my pre reqs:
Do I need to retake any of my sciences since it has been so long? Or once you take them. They count towards pre reqs?
I know I will have to relearn those prerequisite sciences etc for the MCAT, what is the best way to do that without having to take those courses again?
I have looked everywhere for a biochem course that meets the requirements of almost every school I have been looking into... Does anyone have a recommendation on how to find this course without looking into every single school?

Thanks all!

but an mcat prep book (kaplan or something) and see how much of it you remember...that's a good start

You sound a lot like me as far as the timeline of your life and deviation from medicine. Welcome back 🙂

When I was going back to my post-bacc I had been out of science for 7-ish years, and I ended up reading through and doing the practice problems of the first few chapters of a general bio and chemistry book to help reset my brain and get prepped for classes. I'd also recommend watching the videos on Khan Academy. The MCAT books could be helpful, but don't start worrying about practice questions yet, just subject matter review. I've heard Exam Krackers is better for general review than others, but I don't have personal experience.

If you're really ambitious, you can check for a free class on EdX or Coursera that pertain to areas you are interested in, but there isn't a ton of "general" availability (for instance, medical chemistry will be beyond you and I don't know if there is currently a general chemistry course).

Depends on the schools. Many med schools I talked with required core sci courses in the last 5-7yrs. So I retook such. So check with the schools you are interested in or you might find you are automatically eliminated. You should also shadow to make sure it is for you.

I never retook anything, just did higher level courses. Got accepted so it was not an issue except that I had to reteach myself chem and physics for the MCAT. That was not fun but I did it. You can too.
