hi guys,

i'm pre-med and looking to apply to DO schools this summer. i was wondering if anyone knows anything about the independent MPH program at Touro in vallejo, ca? From my understanding, the mph program offered (by invite only) to students who don't quite make the cut for the DO program is ideal bc it saves students a seat in the DO program, but my first time applying to DO schools will be this summer so i'm not eligible to be invited to what touro calls "accelerated mph." has anyone done the independent mph @ touro and then successfully matriculate into their DO program? any feedback will be very much appreciated! thanks!

The accelerated MPH program will save you an interview spot, but not a seat in the next class. If you decide to do this, be sure to schedule the interview before winter break. There are several people who you will actually compete with for a seat from the accel. MPH program and not all of you will get it. I know some folks who have done this accel program. I also know people who have completed their MPH with their DO. If things are they way they were back when I interviewed in 2008, then you will be automatically accepted into the MPH program if you are offered a spot in the DO program before winter break. Those who have completed the MPH have said that its a lot of work on top of the DO curriculum but there are ways to spread out the work through summer before 1st and 2nd year so that you only have one MPH class per semester (they are evening classes). Most are happy they did it, but as a new program it is still ironing out the kinks. Contact [email protected] for more details.

There's also the MHS program there unless you're specifically looking into the MPH option. The MHS, assuming you do well in the program, also guarantees an interview. I recently found out their class is pretty small though ~10 students (first class) and they're looking to expand to 20 this year.
