The video does raise some good points, but the NIA has an obvious agenda here. Don't go running out and buying silver. The owner of the site has been associated with a previous "pump and dump" scam.

I thought a lot of what they said made sense - that the gov't has created an education bubble just like they created a housing bubble by giving tons of loans to people without assessing whether they would be able to pay it back. I agree that a Bachelor's degree has been devalued and isn't worth much anymore because such an abundance of people are getting them these days.

Not so sure about the "physical silver" investments. 🙄

Oh, and I wonder if we are being told the whole story regarding that woman who is a dentist and can't pay back her loans.

Well that woman is just one scenario. A Bachelor's degree is defiantly worth less but I personally don't know anyone that I consider to be successful that does not have a Bachelors... even though ppl like Bill Gates have accomplished great things w/o a Bachelors, I still think that the degree is still worth it

And Bill Gates went to an elite prep school and still went to Harvard and got some education, he just didn't finish. I think there are too many people in college though, I have a ton of people in my classes that just skate by with Cs, and I bet ten years from now they'll be the ones crying about how a degree aint what it used to be.

A degree really isn't what it used to be, but unfortunately you still need one to get crap secretarial level jobs so you can make $11/hr 🙁.

This argument pisses me off.

What about the people who enjoy learning? There is more to college than your end marketability in the workplace.
🙄

This is the digital age. You can learn so much online for free with Khan academy and lectures posted by top universities. There's no reason to put yourself in 5 to 6 figures of debt just because you 'enjoy learning.' And I doubt many people who are part of the bubble 'enjoy learning.'

I know of alot of people who end up going to college just because they think it's the next "logical step". Fresh outta high school, a lot of kids don't exactly know what they want to do... so they go to college.

If you do want to "just learn", college is an excuse to do nothing except "learn" (and party) for 4 years. Beats "I sit at home and learn from watching youtube". Still, I figure most people either go to college because they don't know what they want to do and need to keep doors open, or they know what they want to do and college is one massive hoop of flaming money they need to jump through.

Yeah I dunno. I have zero qualms about spending what ive spent on my education thus far....and I have a masters on top of my undergrad. Hell, I didnt go to class my entire M1 year...watched everything online...but it was still up to my school to put those lectures together and have a knowledgable professor deliver them in a coherent manner.

Do I think college has a lot of fluff and BS to put up with? Yeah. Most of college is about rounding you out and making you a more mature person who is intellectually thirsty.....rather than preparing you for a job (unless you are in some sor of professional program obviously). At age 20/21 when you graduate undergrad you are nowhere near ready to hit the workplace in my opinion.

Education in this country is like the med school application process. Just play the game and keep ur mouth shut!

Well obviously I'm in college so I do support the idea of college and I do have debt due to college.

What I'm saying is a great number of the people in college don't really belong there or need to be there for their future job. These days anyone can go to college and a lot of the people who go can't keep up with the course work, and don't know what they want to do. A lot of people have this ideal of college making you grow and whatever. Guess what, paying bills and working a 9 to 5 is a learning experience. For many, college promotes prolonging dependence on your parents. When people don't finish their degrees or earn their degrees in Italian Geriatric Social Issues from XYZ private university, they end up working as a filing clerk they can't pay back what they owe.

I'm not sure what socio-economic circle you come from, but most people can't afford for their children to have a $100,000 learning experience that they don't finish or leads to a $35,000/yr salary.

I enjoyed it.

Ugh, its a 1 hour build up to a 2 minute buy gold/silver commercial. /sigh
