hey everyone. I just wanted to start getting the word out about the upcoming exotics symposium. It is back at the University of Tennessee this year and will take place January 8-9,2010 in Knoxville.
We are still working on the website so I will post the link to it as soon as we get it a little more completed (hopefully by the beginning of October).

Thanks for the info! I'll look forward to seeing the link.

Awesome! I went last year and loved it!! I hope I'll be able to go again this year!!

what sort of stuff goes on at a symposium like this?

Is it beneficial to students who are not yet veterinary students?

We have 32 lectures and 10 wet labs scheduled. We have speakers to cover various subjects including zoo medicine, exotic pet practice, sanctuary medicine, conservation medicine, and marine medicine. There may be others too... I'm just in class right now and those are the ones I can think of off hand.

It is open to pre-vet students. Most of the lectures are given so that anyone from 1st to 3rd year vet students can understand so they don't go above everyone's head. I know we have at least 1 wet lab (with a required wet lab) for avian surgery that the wet lab requires having a previous surgery class before. This is so that they can focus on the actual surgical processes rather than surgery basics like suture patterns.

so here it is finally... http://exoticssymposium2010.webs.com/

It's not completely done. I'm still working on filling in some stuff but the majority of the important stuff is up. It doesn't seem to be showing up in searches yet even though I've submitted it to both google and yahoo searches so if you guys could spread the link around that would be extremely helpful.

Thanks for the info! I've shared it with our WEZAAM club here at Mississippi State =) I hope to make it this year!

I've actually been wondering the same thing...

I am also super curious about going. I'd love to take a trip of pre-vets from here if it is anywhere near me this year...

And on an only somewhat related note, if you search for "10th annual exotics symposium" on google, one of the top hits is the "10th Annual Exotic Dancer Fan Fair."

From having helped organize it last time it was in TN, I would guess that they are still working out the details. But yes, the website is outdated. I will get in touch with my friends that are still there and see if I can get some info for you.

Thanks. It's been a week in early January and I need to know how it matches up with my winter break and where I need to buy my return plane ticket for school from! 🙂
