I don't know if I'm freaking out for no reason, but I didn't see any definitive answers on old threads. I'm finishing my Junior year with 89 credits because I took 14 credits this semester.. my Physics class had a weird credit number and I didn't want to take an extra class while studying for the MCAT. But now that I'm looking through MSAR some schools say applicants need 90 credits. I don't have any AP credit and have just been taking 15 credits every semester of college.. is this an issue??

Either avoid those schools, or call and ask about the policy's flexibility (which will vary by institution). If a given school is rigid about having 90 credit hours on the AMCAS application, there's no point in flushing application dollars down the drain for that one.

I thought that the 90 hours was a bare minimum requirement for matriculation. As in, technically, someone could be accepted and start med school without having completed their bachelor's.

I would double-check if I were you, but I'll bet that's a requirement for matriculation, not for applying.

I'm hoping contacting them will help, because one school is the state school I most want to go to, as well as some other core schools on my list.

I'm not sure if it's applying or matriculation, because some say explicitly: "No application will be considered unless the applicant has completed 90 credit hours of coursework at the time of application." While others are more vague or don't say anything like that.

if anyone has any more info/experience, I'd really appreciate it

Its definitely just 90 credit hours before matriculation. You don't need 90 hours to apply. I didn't and ended up getting several interviews.

Its saying that you don't NEED a bachelors...but you NEED 90 credits. Unless it says 90 credits + bachelors, then you NEED both. You wont get in if you don't have a bachelors though so I don't understand the 90 credit minimum. But it only applies to matriculation, so don't freak out

If that's the wording, then I guess it means that no application will be considered unless the applicant has completed 90 credit hours of coursework at the time of application.

I'm pretty sure for most schools it's just required before matriculation. Just like specific course requirements.

Out of curiosity, which school has the wording you quoted?

Now that I'm reading again, most of the schools sound more like what pawprint said above, so I'm freaking out slightly less.

That's a load of nonsense. I applied to Georgetown last year without 90 credit hours yet and it was perfectly fine. Whoever told you that was flat out wrong. I guess that's one way to reduce the number of applications they will receive.

@pawprint did you have AP credits above 90?

Nope! I had 88 credits going into my senior year, took 16 credits both semesters to reach my 120 to graduate. I had several interview invites from other schools...not from Georgetown, but I don't think I was rejected because I didn't have enough credits. I made it past the first several rounds of rejections before I was finally rejected towards the end of the interview season.
