There is a doc in town who tells his patients that might have had an allergy to the flu shot at one point in time to get 1/2 now and then 1/2 a few days later (so .25ml and then .25ml). I think it sounds so stupid, but most of them are old ladies who had an "allergy" to the shot at one point in time, like 10 years ago. Generally it seems like it's not a legit allergy or there was some compounding variable (ie oh yeah and I'm allergic to sulfa and I was on Bactrim at the time). We do it, and think it's bogus, but I'm just curious if anyone else has seen anything like this?

Would a 1/2 dose even prevent or mitigate a serious reaction? I doubt it. Do the insurances pay for you to give a 1/2 dose x2?

i would deny each script and tell the old ladies to go back to the doc and get the shot there since they're "allergic"

CDC used to recommend giving the shot in 2 doses for patients with egg allergies, but not 1/2 at a time. It used to be 10% to see if they had a reaction and then give 90% 30mn later. But that was changed in 2011...
