My GPA's decent - 3.71 sGPA for non-s GPA

My MCAT, however, is 12 PS, 10 VS, 7 BS

I usually get 9-13 on BS but I kinda freaked out at the end of the MCAT, and got a 7. I feel like that if I retake, I will do better on BS, but I usually don't score more than 8, or 9 on a VR. (Which makes me really scared to retake...)

A total of 29, with a 7 BS.

How would a medical school look at that?

for a lot of schools the BS tends to be the section with the highest average, probably because it is often the highest sub score for applicants. I would advise retaking because I think that 7 in BS will really hurt you. my state school even has a cut off of 8 for screening in BS

Seriously a 7 in any section will automatically screen you out of most schools

Getting into schools with any section under an 8 can be really hard (trust me!), and even if you do, you will most likely have fewer options and miss out on a program you might really like due to the low subscore. Retake and I really hope you get that score up 🙂

I would definitely retake that MCAT. BS should be a section that someone with your other sub-scores should have gotten at least a 9.

some schools, yes.

most schools. no.

Dead wrong. But what do I know?

MCAT scores: 1st time 30Q (11 PS, 7 VR, 12 BS)

2nd time 34R (12-10-12)

But what do I know? I only called over a dozen adcom offices and they all told me that any section score under an 8 is a huge red flag. Recommended I retake and apply next cycle. That's what I did.

Also, as others said BS is usually the highest section subscore at schools.

We had an underdog get into an Osteopathic school with a 5 in Bio. It can happen, but it's really rare, as the person implied.

The thing about DO school is "one thing can make up for another"...
A high gpa will make up for a unbalanced mcat score and most DO schools only care about the composite scores.

I think for majority of in-state MD schools, they only care about the composite scores too.
But with a 29, i think you are better off taking it again. You don't want to sell yourself short with a fantastic gpa.

A range of 9-13 means your content knowledge is lacking. If you retake it you need to prep more thoroughly.
