Hey everyone. I am applying to Waterloo this year, and I'm wondering if anyone would be able to tell me, realistically, what my chances are. I have a 3.7 GPA(~85%), and scored a 380 on the OAT. I work for a private practice doing pretesting, and have solid references. I have a considerable amount of volunteering done, from tutoring to working with ESL students. I also hold a minor position on the student union at my university. I'm worried because I have very little as far as extracurriculars and non-academic awards. Any feedback is appreciated, thanks!

Also, does anybody know the weight of the interview on the application process?

Your OAT score is very competitive. I would also say your GPA is quite competitive, although I don't entirely know how Waterloo converts GPAs on a 4.0 scale to their percentage scale - an 85% is more like a 3.8, I think. Don't worry about non-academic awards, I didn't have any and I got into the class of 2015. 🙂 I would say that you have a very good shot!

Can't help you with the interview weight. I kind of wish Waterloo Optom was more like med school admissions in Canada, where the schools give you the precise breakdown of how much weight every component has. I would say that the interview is fairly important, though. Last year, I think there were probably over 200 people interviewed at the school and at the two external sites, and 90 of them were accepted, so getting an interview does not guarantee acceptance.
