a concern: atm-like machines replace pharmacists?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
i like patient interaction....

i really am not for these machines...

To allow the use of the machines, the California Board of Pharmacy and the Virginia Board of Pharmacy have issued waivers of rules that require the presence of pharmacists when prescription drugs are dispensed, and other state pharmacy boards might issue similar waivers.

I think this is pretty dangerous....

why not have the rph work a half a day checking rxs and then just let them leave and have the techs dispense?

In my pharmacy the drive through fills 3000 refills a day exclusively with
technicians and a robot. Their error rate is better than a pharmacist and tech team

Note, only refills are processed there. All originals are eyeballed by a pharmacist
