long time reader

I just had a couple questions- 1st some stats

I am part of the 3.0 club with a 3.1 cum and a 2.8 science
I am a double major in bio and chem at USC (gamecocks)

I got a 17/19/15 on my DAT but it would have been A LOT higher if I wouldnt have score LOW on organic
I have lots of good recs and have shadowed dentsits and doctors extensively (blah blah blah)
I had just recently decided to become a dentist, about a year ago, which explains the relatively average to below average GPAs. I was gonna go into to pharm sales

I have aplied to UMD (state school), IUSD, Tufts, USC, and Nova

I have interviews scheduled with UMD and IUSD so far.

now for the questions- I have yet to hear from Tufts, Nova, and USC although they have taken my money- I have given up on info source becuase it sucks- so what is going on there- I have called and emailed but Nova wont reply and Tufts and USC say im under review still- its been 3 months already

Next i got an academic update form from AADSAS and I didnt do too hot last sems and was wondering if it is adventagous to turn in that form before hearing about interviews from the 3 "slacker" schools (Nova USC and Tufts) it has a jan 25 deadline

Wrapping it up just tell me where I stand- this forum has been alot of help because god knows my preproff advisor has not-
so give it to me straight

happy new year

hmmm...you may want to retake the DAT and take a few classes IF possible to boost your GPA.

Last year when I was applying, Nova only anwserd about 2 emails from about 12 sent and did not respond to any phone calls. I left about 10 messages.

It is kinda late in the cycle. Start studying for the DAT and get ready for the next cylce should you not get in this term.

Tufts and USC will probably always say your application is under review--they don't want to deny you just yet, but you weren't hot enough to get acceptances yet. I'm suspecting they'll keep you in their back pocket for a whie longer. Don't know what to say about Nova, they are usually very proficient.

Don't give up on yourself. You have interviews already, and all it takes is one to get in.

More than that I can't say (well, except for your scores don't really stand out at all).

Good luck, I'm sure you'll get something good out of all of this.

I suggest you research your so-called "slacker schools" again. There's many schools that have lower enterance gpas than the schools you listed as "slack".

dental dream go back to sleep

if you would have read the lighthearted quotes only referred to the schools as slack because they HAVE YET TO SEND ME ANY NOTIFICATION one way or the other
damn slackers

the other question stands weither or not to send in the academic update

also does anyone have a name and direct number of somebody in the know at NOVA

In that case, seeing as how your gpa is on the lower end, I would have applied to several other schools with lower entrance gpas.

Back to sleep for me....

I think a lot of the schools I have applied to are waiting for fall quarters grades before they decide to give me a interview. You did not mention why you are so hesitant to send your grades in? I think you are not gaining any ground by not sending in the grades. If the three schools you mention are waiting for the grades then they will either give up on you or ask for them. Tufts asked for my grades. Or, they are just waiting to fill they enrollment and then reject you.

Remember USC had just started there application processing. Nova gave me one of my first rejections.

Your stats do not make you stand out. At the UDM interview, show determination, confidence, understanding of the challenges of dental school, and have preformulated answers to your difficulties in school, and on the DAT. In the end, one acceptance is all that is needed.

Hey dude, why didn't you apply to MUSC? MUSC is waaaaay better than any of those other schools, and the location doesn't hurt either.

definately retake and rock the DAT (lowest should be 17's but 20's would look the best...)....ADCOMS don't like low dat's very much...there was a report sent out correlating DAT scores with how well students do on NDB I and basically it said the higher the DAT, the more likely they will do better on the boards...so...show improvement on the DAT and try your best to make a great impression (not good, not average but GREAT). Good luck!!!

Do you happen to have a copy of that report or a link to where I could view it. Sounds interesting. Thanks.

they didn't really publicize the report...It was just an internal report that was given to members of the ADCOM here. I would scan it but i think i threw it away..=oP sorry...
