Hi Guys,
I was wondering if everyone can express what they deem as their hardest course in med school. For those who haven't graduated, you can express the most difficult to date. Thanks guys.
🙂 🙂 Peace.

Neuro!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!😱

Neuro!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!😱

Thus far I would agree wholehartedly. I despise neuroanatomy...its like learning hundreds of "structures" in a solid block of jello...

classes on ethics, professionalism, and some other crap

needs tremendous motivation to stay awake/attend those classes

We don't need the lecturers to teach us common sense; it seems to me sometimes that the classes are there so that the sociologists can earn their livings.

Neuro - even if it is well taught and paced it's still like trying to learn some weird new language.

I'm gonna have to say Neuro as well. It's taken as a 6-week course the end of our 1st year (so May/June). Aside from the billions of structures/pathways, it's hard to study that time of year too! I've already forgotten so much of it it's scary...

Anatomy. So much to memorize... And I'm not a visual learner...

I'm only in my first semester but I'd say anatomy is the hardest so far. I hope neuro's gonna be a bit easier cause I was a neurosciene major so at least I've learned all the neuroanatomy before and am familiar with most of the diseases of the nervous system. Anatomy is crazy just becauseo of the quantity of information . . . the proffs keeps saying you need to learn this on your own because we just don't have time to go over it all in lecture, and I'm all like if you don't have enuf time to tell me about it, how on earth do you think I have enuf time to read about it and learn it too . . . just studying one of their one hour lectures to really really know it takes around 4 hours for me.

My thoughts aren't very useful since I'm just in my first semester, but anatomy is in the lead right now. It's a lot of seemingly trivial memorization, and it's hard to tie it all together.

anatomy ripped me a new one. it's been downhill from there...

For me, it was Biochemistry. The prof LOVES essay exams and you never know exactly what he is looking for when it comes to answering the question. Rumor has it that this is the most-failed course at my school.

OMG essay biochem questions?! That's evil... all our exams are MC on the computer (except practicals), and professors "try" to write them like Board questions (more vignettes). Some classes are better at this than others. But no essays, eek.

I don't mind biochem essay questions bc there's more room for error. Multiple choice is either right or wrong - no partial credit.

Yep!

Made so much more eloquent when you dissect a gross brain with a spoon...:barf:

They kept saying things like "Can't you see the (name vague neuroanatomical region) as it passes through the (name vague neuroanatomical fossa)?", and I kept wanting to say "Nope, I think I got that part in the last spoonfull 😱 "

By the way, I actually liked the application of Neuro. I thought head and neck in anatomy was the worst- I felt like I destroyed every fossa and ganglion within four feet of our brain, and that made identifying things so much harder...

Oh FAHK yeah. a thousand percent.

I like all those "real" classes which are related to my job as a doctor. But I hate all those "not so important" classes, which are all about "relationships on the workplace", "Multicultural Issues In Healtcare" etc....

I agree: Biochem. In my school, anatomy and neuro aren't that bad.

This reminds me of one actual exam question from first semester that popped up a few years ago. I was doing some past papers and there the essay question was (and my eyes almost popped out): write a page about ATP. Seriously, it was one of the essay questions. I mean, what the heck, what are we supposed to write about ATP? Its structure? Its generation? cAMP? It's one ridiculous question; glad it didn't show up in one of my exams.

Neuroscience was the hardest, but i always like a challenge and that's why im applying to neuro.😀
